I really wish I had the time to read the newspaper and get a good feel for each of the candidates for the democratic nominee. However, due to all the busywork (aka Homework) i get in school, I have no time to do this. Does anyone else wish the Democratic committee could put together a summary of each candidate's beliefs on certain topics? That way, people who are voting next year, or anyone else interested, could get the quick facts.... if they do have something like that, please let me know!!!!!! I've seen a website just on environmental issues, but I haven't seen anything else! So, please post what you think about this, or a website you know of! Thanks!!

Sorry, if I came off rough. I didn't mean to jump down your throat. I'm glad there are folks who can think for themselves rather than just follow everything follow party dogma. Smile

Hey, hey, I'm a Democrat and I completely oppose gun control. I also support public education and think basic healthcare shouldn't be denied to someone who can't pay for it. I mix and match ideologies. Big Grin

And the Democrats want to be able to tell women (and men) what kind of gun they can own, if any; what school they must send their children to, what kind and quality of healthcare they can get, what they can do with their money...well, so far, on the freedom of choice scale, the Republicans beat the Democrats 4 to 1. Of course, I haven't gotten rolling yet...

I wouldn't say picking and choosing like it's a bad thing. Human beings are capable of so much; But not everything we're capable of should be done.

Well, if he wants to limit a woman's access to specific medical procedures, then yes, he is picking and choosing. I don't pretend to know the real reason he is picking and choosing, and I don't think you should either.

No, puffin, Bush does not want to pick and choose America's medical procedures, he believes that abortion is murder. If you're against abortion, at least debate with the real opposing position, not imaginary stances you made up to make an easy win for you.

I'll take back my previous statement, because that's a bit of a distortion as well. Howard Dean, for example, is not necessarily pro-abortion. Pro-choice is more accurate, because he simply believes that it is a medical decision best left between the patient and her doctor.

Frankly, that's another area where Bush advocates big government. He thinks the feds ought to pick and choose which medical procedures should be made available to Americans.

At least you got one right.

quote:
Pro-Higher taxes

Bush is the one who's pro-Higher taxes. He only cut federal taxes, which fueled the deficit and resulted in higher property taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, tuitions at public schools, interest rates on loans... Republicans are starving Americans out of their hard-earned money-- not the Democrats.

quote:
Anti-Capitalism

Capitalism is about competition, and Bush is the candidate who opposes competition. He supports monopolistic corporations, noncompetitive wages (What do you think those Mexicans are being invited over for, tea?), noncompetitive drug prices, corporate welfare, etc.

quote:
Pro-Redistribution of wealth

It needs to be redistributed. People ought to make what they earn. I'm not talking about everyone being guaranteed the same wages-- neither are the Democrats, as far as I can tell. Just common-sense policy, where corporations pay their fair share.

quote:
Pro-Big government

Patriot Act, Anti-Terrorism Authority Act, Department of Homeland Security, corporate welfare, 30% federal budget increase, increased borrowing at Treasury Dept., shifted burden to states (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A56160-2003Jul14¬Found=true)... all Bush administration.

quote:
Pro-Gun control

Dean's no worse than Bush: http://www.charleston.net/stories/041203/wor_12bushguns.shtml
