Since Bush was reelected, will he reinstate the draft? For those of you who have 18 year old brothers like me,Im sure you are worried. People keep on telling me different things about this issue. Clarify please?

I've been around... Decided to come back to see how you guys were handling the election results. I should have expected that Tallywhack and red would still be the wandering douches that they are.

Firstly, I don't believe Bush can just snap his fingers and bring back the draft. It has to be passed by congress. It would be a HUGE deal. That said, we DO NOT need the draft, and therefore it won't be reinstated. We're short on troops not because there aren't enough people willing to sign up, but because we don't have enough positions to fill. That's why Kerry was talking about increasing the size of the army by 40,000. He wasn't proposing a draft, just more positions. Right now if you sign up for the military you could be told to wait anywhere from 6 months to a year or more before you actually go to basic. That's because your replacing people who's contracts are up, not filling new positions. So in short, no draft needed.
