Sov: First off, I never said that he was responsible for what happened in 1989. What Korith and I did say was that he was responsible for the occupation of Tibet, famines, the "Great Leap Forward", the violent Cultural Revolution, and other evil. And his successors were responsible for plenty of repression afterwards too.
Secondly, Imperialism and crimes which the Europeans or capitalist nations committed are irrelevant here. We're not discussing what the Europeans did, or denying what happened. We're talking about what Mao and his Communist dictatorship did, which you're obviously either ignorant of or just in denial.
And lastly: I know about Socialism, Maoism, etc. My mother is from Colombia, she's known radicals and she's seen what leftist extremists can do. The point is though, Mao’s government committed some serious crimes against humanity, and millions starved under him. People died and were tortured in the PRC under Mao, and they’re still dying and being tortured. That alone is enough for me to call that government evil.
BTW: Anyone else find it ironic that Sov is calling us stupid, but she apparently has never heard of a little something called "spell check"?

Yeah, Mao...uhhhh...let's say that if he did something, he did it all the way. He definitely killed people. Did he have a vision? Sure, but...people died.

quote: mao did no such things
Wow... "The Great Leap Forward" is a matter of historical FACT. The same for the "Cultural Revolution", the "Hundred Flower" and "Antirightist" campaigns. Look it up.

Korith: Don't forget how the Mao and his successors in the PRC brutalized all opposition. Look at how the army crushed (in some cases, literally) dissidents at Tiananmen Square in 1989. Or the continued existence of torture rooms and forced abortions for women. Or their support for the Stalinist thugs running North Korea's government. Or their takeover of peaceful, Buddhist Tibet. The PRC, during the Maoist and post-Maoist eras, has continued to be an unbelievably evil and cruel regime.

WTF?! Mao Tse-tung was a confessed "Stalinist". "The great leap Forawd" anyone? He starved 20 millions of his people to death, many had to resort to Cannibalism! And the movement failed. Lets not forget the “Hundred Flowers” and “Antirightist” campaigns. And the very Stalin like "Cultural Revolution" in the 60's and 70's, cataclysmic death and destruction throughout China.

There are no "archives"... to revive an old topic you just have to reply to it. Doing so generally makes you look like a jackass though, as does posting repeat topics. Basically this is a no-win situation for you.
