Well, Howard Dean pretty much sealed it for me; I really started to respect the guy until he said he'd get United Nations approval before doing any military action.
Wesley Clark wants NATO to control everything.
Kerry would get the UN involved; Gephardt would too.
Kucinich is way too Communist and doesn't have a chance, but he, too, is for the UN to control everything.
What the freakin' crap, people? We are fighting illegal police actions and yet not ONE major party candidate has yet to propose bringing our troops back home.
EXCEPT:
Gary Nolan
Aaron Russo
Michael Badnarik
They're all vying for the Libertarian Party nomination, and if elected, which is highly unlikely, they would bring all of our troops back home.
Libertarians are the ones to back in '04. A Nolan/Russo ticket would rock.

Yes Joe, I too believe that we should have our troops leave Iraq. That way the country can turn into just as big of a Shiite Islamic hell hole as Iran did.

quote: Howard Dean said we should have United Nations approval before ANY military venture.
I don't think he said that exactly. For example, he supported the Biden-Lugar resolution, which said that Bush would ask for a U.N. resolution to enforce weapons inspections in Iraq, and if they refused Bush would have the power to determine that the threat to our country necesitated military action. Which would have worked out more nicely if Bush hadn't been lying about the threat Iraq posed in the first place. Also, I found this quote: FEBRUARY 20, 2003 - SALON.COM "[Dean's position] is -- 'as I've said about eight times today,' [Dean] says, annoyed -- that Saddam must be disarmed, but with a multilateral force under the auspices of the United Nations. If the U.N. in the end chooses not to enforce its own resolutions, then the U.S. should give Saddam 30 to 60 days to disarm, and if he doesn't, unilateral action is a regrettable, but unavoidable, choice." I dunno, Joey. I know Dean's not perfect, but he still seems like the best chance we have to get our country back on track.

That crap doesn't cut it.
We are NOT the United Nations, nor should we keep paying these idiots.
If you allow the UN to take over Iraq, it will follow the brilliant ventures in Korea, Vietnam, and the Balkans.
I say withdraw all of our troops, let the UN take it over, but NEVER go to them for "approval."

Joey, I'm no fan of the U.N., but let me tell you this: there is only one reason that I support Howard Dean's plan to involve the U.N. in the Iraq reconstruction-- it takes some of the cost burden off our shoulders. Let the U.N. flounder in Iraq for a decade, if for no other reason, then so we alone don't have to. Plus, maybe it'll keep Kofi busy so he'll stop hitting us up for AIDS relief and anti-spanking laws.

joeydauben, every single candidate that has mentioned UN action has proposed to get the UN in and US troops out. Your "communist" Dennis Kucinich has said repeatedly that he would withdraw all US troops within 90 days. Some military has to stay in Iraq and set up a government, we cant just leave the country in shambles. quote: Originally posted by JoeyDauben: Well, Howard Dean pretty much sealed it for me; I really started to respect the guy until he said he'd get United Nations approval before doing any military action.
