October is not only Breast Cancer Awareness month but it is also Lupus Awareness month. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects 1.5 million people or 1 in 200 people. Lupus affects the skin, joints, blood, and organs. Sometimes it’s mild for people and other times it is not. Lupus can imitate other diseases. It is known as the great imitator. One type of lupus is discord which affects the skin. Another one is systemic which affects organs for some people. For others it affects the skin, joints, lungs, kidneys, blood or other organs and tissues. Drug induced lupus occurs after taking certain prescribed drugs. The first two are not curable but drug induced lupus is. The cause of lupus is unknown. Lupus is not a type of cancer and is not like AIDS. Lupus is Latin for wolf. It can occur in any age, in any sex, and in any race. African American women have a greater risk than Caucasian women do to get lupus. Lupus is not contagious. Lupus patients have more risks for blood clots, seizures, and strokes. 16,000 people a year develop lupus. In the U.K. there are more than 54,000 people who suffer from lupus. Some symptoms include: joint pain, swollen joints, rash, unexplained fever, and flu like symptoms. About 80 to 90 percent of lupus suffers live a normal life span. Not every single lupus patient is the same. Twenty years ago more people died from lupus than today. Infection and kidney failure are the most common reason that people die from lupus. Blood and urine test are needed also x-rays, biopsies, and ultrasounds are needed.
Rest, quitting smoking, adding exercise, and adding a balanced diet are included in the lupus treatments. One myth is that you should never get pregnant if you have lupus. Lupus patients do deliver healthy babies. Do take your medicine regularly or it may hurt you.To help raise money go to: https://www.2p9.com/Lupus/SLE/0105OrangeBracelet/sle_br...fm?trkid=20488S39274 to get the orange Life Without Lupus awareness bracelet(an article at: http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=40853)or go to:http://www.lupus.org/merchant2/4.00/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=LS&Category_Code=W for the purple Someone You Know Has Lupus awareness bracelet.

No, you were right; I was being rude. You were being redundant, which is not only unnecessary, but also stupid in appearance. At least, it is to me.

Your logic is irrefutable.

What do you mean by that?It is true that it is not highly known.

Stress may cause lupus but it is really unknown.I've read some places that say stress may be one of the causes of lupus but since it is not highly known noboody really knows. That what doctors/scientists are trying to figure out(as well as a cure for it).

I think of Mitch Hedburg. "Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. 'Goddamn it Otto, you are an alcoholic.' 'Goddamn it Otto, you have Lupus' ...One of those two doesn't sound right."

And apparently some theory is that in the 10th century or so, they named it Lupus because the rash looked like a wolf bite.

I thought maybe it's because they thought the disease was someone turning into a wolf.

What's with the name Lupus, anyway? Whenever I hear it I think of wolves, being familiar with latin. But the disease has nothing to do with wolves. Does it have something to do with how dangerous it is?

I like these calm little moments before the storm.

My mom has lupus. It affects her joints and her organs, and when she's stressed it gets worse. She takes many medications for it, and we have no idea where (or how) she got it in the first place.
