Please visit ONE.org and sign the declaration asking President Bush to help fight poverty at this year's G8 leaders meeting on July 6th urging him to:

- Help the poorest people of the world fight poverty, AIDS and hunger at a cost equal to just ONE percent more of the US budget on a clear timetable
- Cancel 100% of the debts owed by the poorest countries
- Reform trade rules so poor countries can earn sustainable incomes.

You can also take action by wearing the white band (available on ONE.org) showing your support for the ONE Campaign and the fight against global aids and poverty. The white bands are part of a global effort to make poverty history.

the WTO, World Bank, and IMF are all dominated by the world's richest countries. all of the trade rules they set are in the wealthy's favor. they force the poor countries to open up their markets to foreign imports and businesses and sell off public services like electricity when this isnt even in their interest. they ban poor countries from supporting vulnerable farmers and industries while the wealthy nations keep supporting their own. the poor countries lose time and again

no where does this organization claim that they have a cure for aids. but if we work together we can come closer to ultimately developing that cure.

by canceling their debts, how will that cause them to be back in debt? by canceling the debts that they owe us this is more money that they do not have to worry about paying us with as they are already some of the poorest countries. this will then result in them becoming better off, as opposed to them becoming even more poo.
