sho- i don't think you really get the point of the commercial. It's not saying if you are slightly obese then that is very very bad. It's not telling you to be super skinney. It's telling people they should go out and take care of themselves. Like exercising and eating healthy.
And serve obesity isn't the only way you have problems from food. Some people who are very thin have awful chlosterol or not enough vitamins in their diet.
It's simply trying to get people to be healthier and not eat unhealthy things all the time.
And, freedom, it makes sense that restricting kids would make for problems when they get older. I think it's pretty reasonable to let kids have sugar in moderation, but just not keep it in the house, so that they learn to deal with it without being constantly exposed.
but you are eating way out of proportion then you are hurting yourself.
Really? Will I get fat? Will everyone hate me?
Come on now. Chocolate cake doesn't hurt anyone, as long as they arn't malnourished or something. Our society is conditioned to think that weight and calories are like, a disease. Which they are not, unless it's like severe obesity. Think about the message that sends out to young girls...that it's not okay to eat things you like, or gain any weight at all.
not only is cookie monster getting healthier but many other childhood idols, such as Ronald McDonald. It's crazy, all the kidsI know are going to continue to eat sugar and whatnot. If the media was really woried about it, why not do away with puppets who covet sweets and fast food chains altogether? (I'm not personally in favor of this, but hey it's not really my say)
what's so bad about it? nothing if you eat a reasonable portion of it once in a while, but you are eating way out of proportion then you are hurting yourself.
Grrr I saw a commercial on TV that featured a woman smoking a cigarette and then eating a big piece of chocolate cake, and then there was some kind of message that was like, "Take care of your body- don't do substances and eat healthy foods."
And I was like, what exactly is so bad about chocolate cake?!
And, freedom, it makes sense that restricting kids would make for problems when they get older. I think it's pretty reasonable to let kids have sugar in moderation, but just not keep it in the house, so that they learn to deal with it without being constantly exposed.
I think the same could go for alchohol... not with little kids, of course, but with teenagers. Parents making something off limits is often a strong encouragement for the kid to have it.
Have you guys seen the episode of family guy where cookie monster is in rehab. First he gets caught with cookies in rehab. Then later in the epiode he is in the bathroom stall preparing to shoot up cookie dough
I was gonna say something meaniful, I was gonna say something wise, I would have said something that meant something to me, but I lost my train of thought
Well, if cookie monster starts eating less cookies will they need to make a thinner puppet? He is portrayed as fat and one who only eats cookies. Stop eating as many cookies and he will gradually get thinner. Or, will they show him the same wieght?
Search the land, you'll find another with the same face. Search the Earth, you'll find not one more with the same soul.
I recently read the Psychology Today magazine for this month (or was it last's?) and it had an article in it warning parents that restricting a child only makes the problem worse for when they get older.
this is so sad, what is this world coming to anyway?

Cookie monster is not what's making children obese. It's the fact that they cannot go out and play because their parent's aren't home. Also that children are growing up too fast, so the toys that cause you to move, even playing with trucks, are getting too childish, too fast.
The exercise that children do get is very limited. They do sports, not exercise. They pick up a sport, and then they do just the movements involved in that sport. My mom was reading something written by a physical therapist and he was saying that kids go to sports therapy in third grade. Something's messed.
By the way, caerat3, I love your signature. Got to love Harry Potter. I'm obsessed with it in fact.
Just because nobody understands you, that doesn't mean you're artistic.
THEY BETTER NOT CHANGE COOKIE MONSTER!!!!!! I LOVE HIM SOOOOOO MUCH!!!! And his "me want cookay!" is so funny!I love Cookie Monster, but I can't imagine wanting to be him.....
If parents want to blame the Cookie Monster for their children's obesity then maybe they should blame the television in general for their own stupidity.
Live life as if there was no tomorrow and make tomorrow better than the day before.
