I am offended by the survey in the front page...depression is not the only mental disorder out there, YN mods/staff/etc!

If I begin to list the mental problems/disorders/etc out there...from psycopathy to being bipolar, to schizophrenia (sp?), to dementia, social phobia, etc...I'll make the longest thread on YN.

Aha....thus, the original purpose of this thread.

Talk about mental problems/disorders/etc, or mental health in general. What you have, what a family member has, what you think you have, or if you're just interested in mental problems, this is the thread for you.

I have a mild form of Asperger's (but that's more of a learning-social thing), and was diagnosed a clinical psycopath.

Now, all the other loonies out there, rejoice!, I tell you, rejoice! Celebrate your unnormal-ness, because you know, many geniuses were describe as insane.

In my case, hurray psycopaths!(And no, uneducated fools, my psycopathy does not imply I am Hannibal Lecter, nor talk/act/etc like him.)

The sole reason why I may become a killer thanks to my psycopathy is because I:
- lack regret or guilt
- lack deep emotions (I don't love many people, in fact, nearly no one)
- am manipulative (yes, I am the most manipulative ***** you will ever meet. I need to be in power.)

Now, again, talk of your mental health concerns/problems. And better if it's not depression..depression is too overheard today, let's make it interesting, shall we?

I was diagnosed with a social anxiety disorder, and some people think I have a mild form of OCD. Selective Mutism (my social anxiety disorder) made school really hard for me, which is why I am being homeschooled now. It is a lot better!

Hannibal Lector is more of a sociopath then a phychopath. I have not been diagnosed with any mental illness; mostly due to the fact that I will not let a theripist pry open my mind like they so love to do. With the money they get paid I would do it too. Seems fun really. I am not as crass as I apear. The fatuous ones are the people around me who love to assume. I have not killed a human, but find myself engulfed in glee and in a state of bliss when it comes to the thought. I long oh so very much to have the skin of someone to caress at night, perhaps even hang above my sleeping place. It would seem that even the smell of decomposing flesh, as bad, distasteful and displeasing to the scences as that is it holds some stimulation within me.
Mental problems? Disease? I cannot help but lull myself in laughter. People have come to me saying they have this or that. Personally I am not the least bit interested in what it is for the most, but I put on a face and play the part of a concerned friend. That is until I cannot force myself to listten to the blabber of their 'illness.' A pitty party is what most of them want and I consider the only mental disorder they have is what is called now a days as being an attention whore.

Yeah, try Amino acid supplements. It works for some people, and clinical trials have shown it can be as effective as anti-depressants. Anti-depressants also work for some people; but if you want "natural" try that first. Good luck More Detail About Amino acid

but for the most part if a person is willing to foot the Dr. bill they are being sincere....there are the occasional "ooohhh look at me i have a condition" which is usually for attention, sad though that the rest of us have to be labled for others need of attention.

Maya, your friend has a point to a certain extent. There are some things like that, some people like that.

But, it's not that black and white. There are ins and outs and thises and thatses. It's so complicated.

Yes, there are some people who just, "Oh, I'm sad. Time for a psychologist." Or whatever it is. When I'm sad, I don't go running to a psychologist (and I'm at an age where hormones are playing games, and I'm getting mood swings...not from happy to angry, but happy to greatly depressed.) What I do is eat comfort food and try to find something amusing. WOW! I SOLVED THE PROBLEM!

Yeah I completely agree with you. But I guess I should've explained more. I said this to him when we were having the argument and he said that for problems like that(produced by a chemical imbalance in the brain) you can see a psychiatrist, take medications, etc but not a psychologist.

What he thinks though is that everyone nowaydays doesn't even try to solve their own problems, they feel depressed so they go to a psychologist, they never go out of their house because they fear social situations so they go to a psychologist, etc. instead of trying to "fix it" for themselves. I was about to start a thread but just thought I could post it here instead of creating a whole new thread because you might not be interested anyway, so what's the point.

I was talking to a friend on MSN a few minutes ago about psychology. He thinks it's complete bull****. His view is basically that you can solve your own mental problems, that the only reason people can't nowadays is because therapists exist. Therefore making us believe that we need them to help us solve our problems, therefore creating a dependency. I don't know if I'm explaining myself that well. It's pretty late here so I'm sort of tired and not completely "here". Well anyway what do you think about all that? I don't share his views, in fact I'm going to start going to a new therapist this week or the following, but just wanted to know what you all think.

Okay, you guys have made me paranoid. Now I'm noticing all of my "just-so" mannerisms. Like the fact that my pillow has to be exactly centered when I make my bed, and that my drawers have to either be closed entirely or open an even amount, that the book spines have to either match up on the shelf OR be pushed all the way to the back, otherwise it bugs me, and that they have to be in the EXACT genre area, and all the other picky habits I have. YOU'VE MADE ME NOTICE ALL THIS! Smile

No, just no way to approach the idea of me having OCD. I just don't open up well in that sense. My family is much too...conservative to believe that I could possibly have such a thing, if you see what I mean. Smile I love them and all, I just can't see that.
