It is NOTHING to do with them being communist, every parent in Britain is given financial support for their children, it's called the welfare state and quite common in Europe....i didn't know this didn't exist in the US? Hooray for socialism!
It does exist in the US in a sense, but not for everyone. In order to get Welfare you have to apply for it, its assistance for those who may need it. But every doesn't just get it all willy nilly.

Why? It will act as population control therefore theorticly(sp?) limiting the number of starving/homeless children.
I heard that because of that growing difference in male and female ratio there was a lot of bride trafficking from neighbor countries, but that was in pakistan or someplace like that.

I thought that it wasn't a "limit" on children per say, but basically you have to pay taxes on every child you have over one? Isn't China a communist government and like gives each family a check of some sort. I don't know maybe a ill-informed about this particular issue, but to me it sounded like a good idea, because if their paying each family a living stipend, or whatever you want to call it, then with each child you have, the money needed would increase, so it seems only fitting to simply say, you have to pay this much money when you have more than one child to help keep their balance. It's not like here in America where everyones basically responsible for their own kids and the making of the money right? I don't know correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think that there should be a limit on children. If they have that many people than they should find some other way to deal with it.

I wouldn't really call China first-world, but I suppose that's a matter of opinion. And note: I didn't say all. Duh.

Population control is the ultimate means for a government to take away freedom of their citizens. Much like Hitler who would have disabeled children kild when they went to to the hospital for common colds China has taken this a step forward and is killing children before they are even born. A limit on Children is absurd. Perhaps if the Chinese government was more leniant in letting people leave China they wouldn't have a population problem. Perhaps is China would let people settle in the countryside their major cities wouldn't be so crowded. Perhaps if China was capable of providing for its citizens they would believe they have a population problem. quote: A country with over a billion citizens needs to have some sort of population control, else it will run out of resources very, very quickly
In this worlds growing state of interdependence it is unlikley that a country running out of resources will effect it negativley. Besides, their economy isn't tied to their resources but to textiles and producing what other countries send them. quote: But what kind of life is it where you have no chance of finding a mate?
Are you recomending that people who have never married have had a miserable life? Do you know the percentage of people who never marry? Do you think they have a horrible life. quote: Which is why it's illegal in most, if not all, first-world countries.
But not in China

quote: A country with over a billion citizens needs to have some sort of population control
Then how about instead of killing children and sanctioning the killing of children, the Chinese government become capitalist, allows and encourages (not forces) birth control, and let people come and go as they please. When Chinese immigrants get in a crate and drink thier own urine for months as they flee to America, China demands them back and plays war games off the coast of Taiwan. Sounds like a reposnsible government to me and you too, I guess. Killing children is not responsible policy. If they could bring thier country to a state in which families didn't need 10 kids (like America) this wouldn't need to happen. China is very irresposible in almost all of thier policies and it is sad and frightening that you don't see that or agree with it.

It's should be good as what u all said to preserve and allocate the resources more efficiently .. But the sad thing is this .. Most people in China are more traditional and they give male the piority. Once a family's first child is a girl, some will drown or bury the girl so they can have a boy later. Imagine this.. What if all the children they get are females? How many need to die? This is infanticide. Therefore birth control should be a good thing.

Which is why it's illegal in most, if not all, first-world countries. I find nothing wrong with the one-child limit. A country with over a billion citizens needs to have some sort of population control, else it will run out of resources very, very quickly.

It is in China. And partial birth abortion is not much better.

Oh goodness. That's a ridiculous comparison. Abortion is not sucking out the brains of children. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

I think it is cool. Ripping children from the womb and sucking out their brains is perfectly acceptable, they aren't real humans anyway. If you like abortion, you should like china.

I have a few friends from China; they say no one takes it seriously unless you live in the city. Farmers really can't or don't care. And it's not like they're going to kill the other children.

If I recall correctly, they don't prohibit couples from having more than one child, but they will slam them with taxes.
