I'll admit I haven't done my research, but does not eating breakfast really cause ADD/ADHD in people? Because I mean, think about it: I ate breakfast everyday, first through fouth grade, and my teachers thought I had ADD. Then I stopped eating breakfast; the acusations of ADD stopped. I just recently started finding it harder to concentrate in school. I started high school August 26th. But it was mainly the eighth grade. I barely ate breakfast in the eighth grade, and nobody had said anything about me having ADD. They just say it's memory problems.

Please post something on this because I'm more confused than when I work with fractions (and that's saying something).

On a similar note, I read an article about a group of people who don't believe in HIV and AIDs. One of the prominent members HAS HIV and children, and refused to get one tested even though it died from a problem that could have been prevented if the baby was treated for HIV. Disbelieving doesn't make a problem go away.

You can't say you don't believe in a part of science just because of one example. If his dad is the same way, his Dad probably has ADD/ADHD.

I think what a lot of people don't understand is that there's a scale. Some people have mild ADD/ADHD while other people's is so bad they can't focus enough to do anything. Just because they function without medication does not automatically mean they don't have ADD/ADHD.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone who makes the mistake of claiming to not believe in a physical thing: I don't care if you believe in it or not, it's still there.

I might as well go around saying I don't believe in breast cancer. Everyone knows it's just made up by women who want attention. People don't really have breast cancer. It's all a sham.

See what I mean? People do have ADD/ADHD. It's a real disease. Sure, it's diagnosed way too often, but the simple fact that some people use it as a scapegoat doesn't mean it isn't real.

Personally I don't believe in ADD/ADHD or any of that.
I think it's just something that the Doctor's make up so that the children can get hooked on drugs.

I know that the teacher's are going to say that my nephew who is 2 years old has ADD cause he is really hyper and can't really sit still that long.
But if you look at his Dad, his Dad is the same way, but his Dad doesn't have ADD/ADHD or any of that.

I know when I skip breakfast I am really grumpy and no one really wants to be around me.

I have heard that if you don't eat breakfast that you gain weight. I don't know if that is true or not.

Skipping breakfast very often has ADD like results causing problems with paying attention. It's a scientific fact.

Skipping breakfast is also bad for weightloss, because having frequent meals is important.

I hardly ever eat breakfast as I never usually wake up in time to have any. I find that breakfast does allow you to concentrate more effectively, however. Your body does not have the necessary nutrients to enable you to function properly without some sort of nourishment in the morning. Despite my frequent days with no breakfast, I have never been accused of having ADD. I think it is too loosely diagnosed, and very few of those described as having it, actually do.

Hmm...that's interesting. What sor of foods had you been eating for breakfast? When I was a kid I ate breakfast basically everyday...don't get the chance very often anymore. When I was in elementary school, on the rare occasions when I didn't get to eat breakfast, I felt weak and dizzy. I haven't met anyone who has had a problem with concentration because they ate breakfast...so I'm not really sure what to make of it.

If anything, having no breakfast makes you weak and thus unable to concentrate. Lack of nutrients, and all that such stuff.

I don't really have a way to say for sure but I don't believe it causes anything. I have eaten breakfast maybe 3 times since I started preschool and I'm a Senior in highschool now. I did / do have ADHD and was medicated for it until about the 4th grade. But I don't blame that on lack of breakfast at all. I never had problems with the work itself in any school subject until 9th or 10th grade when it got noticibly harder and more involved, it was just the problem of not being able to stay focused on doing the work. I would sooner stare at the wall for an hour than do my math work. So, I really don't know if it ties in with breakfast or not but I doubt it. But obviously if you wake up and eat a bunch of sugar before going to school that will affect your performance. If you eat nothing like me, maybe it drops your concentration level by making you think more about food... but I don't have that problem until about half an hour before lunch.

Maybe it was your sugar intake in the morning. Maybe your body is sensitive to that.

Otherwise, I'd chalk it up to coincidence.
