quote: i know many fat people who are to damn lazy to try and change what they look like. For those people it is their fault and i have no sympathy for them
I know someone like that. People wouldn't make fun of her if she actually TRIED to loose weight (which she could) and didn't wear mini skirts (I nearly tore my eyes out) or tight clothes. But there are some people who just have slow metabolism. They eat really healthy and it doesn't really help.

quote: I would advise sympathy to those who are obese. It is not really a problem up to a certain extent, just a problem percieved by our culture.
From a person who lives in a country with socialized healthcare I'm surprised at you. Societal obesity puts a huge stress on the system with all the chronic medical problems that come along with it. quote: That's awesome. Also, a lot of people are obese because they cant afford anything else. A lot of people where i live are immigrants and they spend a lot of time at fast food places because the fathers are at work a lot and the mother doestn feel like cooking or they dont have anything considered a meal. When people joke about some immigrants being chubby i get upset. It's all they can do. It's cheap and you dont have to make anything.
This is one of the worst arguments out there. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean there aren't other options out there. A box of generic cereal costs about as much as a value meal from a fast food restaraunt and provides about 8 times the nutrition. Not to mention that just because you eat fast food doesn't mean you have to eat huge fatty burgers every day. Hell, eat half of them, get diet soda or water, no fries, no cheese, etc. It's possible to eat (somewhat) healthily from these places. It's just not convienent to. I've lost a considerable amount weight eating the food at my college, which basically consists of fast food burgers and fries, pizzas, and Quiznos subs. You just eat small portions and excercise on a regular basis.

It didn't occur to me at first either. I kept reading the title and saying to myself, "Well, she's got a point." And then every time I read her post, I was infuriated....and I couldn't figure out why. All it took was a second glance at the first line... As far as the food: Well, the healthy stuff lasts longer. I mean, you're probably not going to eat more than a whole banana a day, right? While you can eat a half a bag of chips in a day (especially since half of it is usually air ). So a bunch of bananas is going to last longer than a bag of chips. So if everyone all bought healthy food, they would probably buy less food, and therefore the money spent may go up a little but not much. Does that make sense?

I think that's a really wise distinction Worth that didn't occur to people including myself, when I was thinking about it. Thanks for pointing it out. I do agree it's a bit weird that junk food is cheap compared to heathly foods, but I believe it's because the nutritious value makes it more expensive to produce or something. There's a difference between feeling sorry for someone simply because they are obese and this... quote: We shouldn't feel sorry when kids are made fun of for being obese.
We should always feel sympathy/empathy for people who are being made fun of for something like being overweight or wearing glasses or any of the other things that kids get made fun of during the schoolage years. Teasing people in a hurtful manner is always wrong. So, no, I don't agree that we should feel sorry for people simply because they are obese. But we should feel sympathy for them and even step in and lend a hand if they're being made fun of because of it.

Good point...but isn't funny how it's way cheaper to buy the "junk food" than to buy salad mix or vegetables? And the government wants to do something about obesity...hahaha...maybe they should start with the supermarkets. That's one of the main reasons for obesity. ~~~From the mind of westcoast0710:To generalize is to be an idiot. To particularize is the alone distinction of merit. That's true for some, but like I've said, give people the benefit of the doubt. many overweight people are trying. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

I got tired of complaining about how fat I was, so I started exercising. I lost 25 pounds already, and still dropping. Go physical fitness.

Well do these people mind being obese, pantera? If not, then why should anyone else care? I know a few overweight people who don't mind being that way and are happy as is. As long as they're happy, what is it of our business? And it's not all about what you look like, ***hole. Some people want to lose weight to be healthy.

zleepy, that is correct. Not all people who are obese have anything to do with it. you have no right to judge people who can't help things such as that.

Isnt this just like saying "why feel bad for people who wear glasses? They just spent too much time in front of the tv" I think that it's ignorant to laugh at someone who is different then you are.

quote: The only fruits I like? Bananas, cherries, and strawberries.
why dont you try making a smoothie as a dessert or snack? Just use low fat or fat free plain yogurt (or vanilla ice cream) and add strawberries, bananas, chocolate syrup for the flavor, and if you use yogurt, use ice cubes. All you have to do is put all your ingredients into a blender and mix it. I love smoothies and theyre a good healthy dessert.
