I saw an episode of Oprah on breast feeding in public being an issue of either don't do it or cover up. I found an article and I have the link so here it is. What are your guys' opinion about it? Should women be able to openly breast feed in public or not?

I don't think it should matter what other people want to see when it comes to breast feeding. When a baby wants to eat, a baby wants to eat, and I'd personally rather avert my eyes from a breast-feeding mother than have to deal with a screaming child that I can't block out.

I don't see why women should have to buy bottles and use bottles out of respect when we have natural ones that are cheaper and easily accessible. If women want to breast feed, that's their choice; you don't have to watch them.

I agree with what some of you are saying about how it is offending a mother if she can't do it where she wants and how the baby just needs it. But I mean, come on don't do it in like an open place. At least do it somewhere a little hidden (like not the table in the middle of the restaraunt but instead the table off to the side) and cover it up.

If they cover, its ok.
Sometimes the baby needs to eat at a bad time and they have no choice but to feed in public. They just have to cover.

I know that because I have two of them. I'm not the one making the big deal about breast feeding in public.

Again, I understand that and I think it's stupid for people to make a mother feel like she can't feed her baby when she's out and about in public. But with the society we live in, people would get offended if they see a crack in the sidewalk.

True but most people breast feed at some point.

Where else do you think you would be if you are eating out?

Well, a lot of people eat out who smack their food and no one wants to see that. I think what people who are against this are trying to say is it's all about showing a little modesty for the other people around you.

I think that every woman has a right to breastfeed their child in Public. When ever I see a mother/ lady nursing her child I smile and basically thank you for doing something wonderful for her baby. Their are many wonderful benefits when it comes to breastfeeding, because it has a lot of healthy things in the breastmilk for your baby. God gave us breasts for one and only one purpose. Whic is to feed our babies when they are hungary. It's nothing sexrual, now to men obviously they love our breasts. But that's besides the point because that's not what it's for. If it was for our men then we would be using it as an sexrual object, since it's not we need to have respect for those who are hungary. I know for an fact when I have my baby I will nurse whith my shirt way up in public, because my baby would be hungary, if you don't like it then feel free to turn your head the oposite dierection. That's all you have to say. I'm sure I would use an blanket but still... the point is...! Is if I want to nurse with my shirt off outside then I will, that's what I'm basically saying not that I would, But I would...nurse with my shirt way up with half of my breast showing. Why does it matter into days society anyways? woman are getting plastic surgery to make their tits huge!
Woman are wearing low cut shirts with their boobs hanging out anyways! So what's the point of watching a baby eat?
Anyways I believe that a woman should not have to hide it, I've seen woman go to the bathroom to nurse their baby!!! Excuse me, but why in the world would anyone want to eat ina disgusting bathroom where everyone shits and pissis? Excuse my french but it frusterates me so much. That people would even!!! Think about making it against the law to nurse in public. If I see a woman in the restroom nursing I would ask her why she wants to feed her baby in the bathroom. She obviously dosn't eat in the bathroom. Haha so I would hope not, I wonder why she thought her baby would. lol Anyway, Thank you for your time. And for those who disagreed with it befor. Please read this and think it over, it's only for the baby to eat and get full. Woudl you rather hear an bible scream it's lungs off. Because as you know! Most babies will not take an bottle. My cousin wont, haha and trust me.!!!!

I never knew this was an issue. I think it's kind of gross, but whatever, that is what boobs were made for. I'd just prefer that people cover it up with a baby blanket or something.

I will love the false image I had of you.

i never knew this was an issue. of course women should breast feed in public!!! its a natural way for them to take care of their children and anyone who thinks its "gross" needs to grow up and accept the human body

I'm all for breast feeding my child. I'm not just going to sit there and withhold food from my child just because people don't want to see it.

I'm all for showing a little modesty when it comes to feeding a baby. People don't want to see a women's boob in public and frankly, I wouldn't want to show them mine.

Is there even an issue if the mom covers up for modesty purposes - NO. So, why do people even care?

Contrary to popular belief, God did not give women breasts to atract males. Breasts were created to feed children. Why, then, do people find breats offensive. They are just like a bottle. I thoughrally intend on breastfeeding future children whenever and wherever they're hungry.

I'm glad to see the positive comments about freedom to breast feed publically. Come on, people --- especially adult men and women who are mature, can handle seeing a breast. And the little babies will be so happy! I breast fed for a year, by the way, and had a healthy, plump baby girl who grew into a lovely young woman. I'm glad I made the choice to offer her the best nature has to offer.

My mother is a La Leche League Leader, Lactation Consultant, and mother 3 very healthy, exclusively breastfed children.
I grew up surrounded by other women who chose to breastfeed thier children, and all the issues surrounding "breastfeeding culture"

As far as I am concerned, the issue of wether or not a woman should be allowed to breastfeed her child in public is a non-issue.
if a baby is hungry, how could you withhold food from them, even for a minute if you knew it was right there, available? "Hold on a second, baby. Your mother has to get somewhere where i cant see her because nipples are dirty and terrible things." AOSOLUTELY NOT.

It is illegal in restauraunts in Ny to refuse service to a breastfeeding woman, discriminate against her, make her go in the bathroom, whatever. In the past, establishments have done things of the sort, had signs saying "No Breastfeeding" outside, etc. Mostly "health issues." They said that the breastmilk might spill and dirty thier floor or in some way comtaminate something (let me tell you, it is fairly impossible to shoot it across a room without bieng FULLY AWARE of what you are doing...as well as a lot of concentration) Breastmilk, usually, has to be drawn out of the breast by sucking or similar manners. it isnt going to get on the floor or in someones food.

Some people choose to be modest, thats fine! Its perfectly understandable, as a matter of fact..I dont like strangers staring at my breasts either. But the option to breastfeed your child in public is always there, and should always be there for women who choose to do so.

breastfeeding is the most natural, healthy, and safe way to feed your child. Kudos to all who continue to choose it.

it takes all types.
