Has Time Run Out?

The above is an article from the Mother Jones website.

Everyone here is probably aware of the bird flu, that it is becoming a problem in Southeast Asia, and that it can be transmitted to humans. According to the article, which seems to be well supported, the bird flu will be able to spread across most of the world within a year. This of course has the potential to be extremely serious, even in the US, where we generally like to think we're immune to worldly dangers.

Because Americans do not generally worry about things happening halfway across the globe and because our media isn't following this as well as it should, anxiety over the possible severity of a pandemic is running low. If the avian flu does hit America, we will be drastically unprepared.

Discuss.

The entire point of this thread wasn't to be paranoid or to discuss a solution. I put it up here because there isn't anything we can do about it and if there is an outbreak, things could get very interesting.

The only thing we can do is maintain healthy immune systems and run away from chickens.

What's there to discuss? The question is: What the heck can we do about this??

Reactionary has a point.

I like these calm little moments before the storm.

This entire thread is based on paranoia.

World population around 7 billion + flu epidemic = natural correction of overpopulation.

Hell given China's population policies they might have decided that it's beneficial to LET it spread.

Wow, someone who agrees with me on that.

I agree that a pandemic could be beneficial, though of course it won't exactly be pleasant.

At any rate, that's the exact reason that I posted this. Because there is nothing we can do.

That said, anyone on these boards is sort of at a loss to do anything about this. You can't write a letter to or protest a virulent plauge. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, if it even does.

Thank God for my impervious immune system.
