I am a vegitarian for one main reason. I love animals and just the thought of eating creatures i love grosses me out. i started vegitarianism this year. and the people who posted things on the animal rights boards saying that "god put animals on this earth for us to eat them" are the most selfish people ive ever come across with. God didnt put these amazing creatures here so you and your species could eat them.

And when some of you said vegitarians get animals killed because of the harvesting of the plants, thats just stupid. we cannot control every little field mouse or bird that gets hurt in the process. im not saying they dont matter, but if we want to keep animals alive i guess it is better them than eating them GRILLED. post your thoughts because id really like to know what you all think.

Ok animals were created to eat. Other animals eat each other. For some they have to survive. It's called the food chain.

You know how they say that our DNA differs only 2% from apes/chimps?

Well, that two-percent difference is because we have protein in our diet that helps our brians function at a higher level than monkeys.

The only reason we evolved at all is because we ate meat.

And, personally, I have no problem with connecting "cow" to "burger". I understand why some people do like my Nanna, but I just don't have a problem with it. **shrugs**

Water is recycled (basically) in nature.

quote:
-the raising and production of meat leads to air pollution and increases green house gases, which could be reduced if more people lived a meat free lifestyle

(warning: crass ahead) Have you ever smelled the fart of someone who ate too much corn? Clearly that must be toxic to humans.

Heh, funny how you fail to mention that (in poor countries) if people dedicate themselves to raising a crop such as grain, the whole process of making it into bread is costly and time consuming, plus taking in mind drought and the like.

Ethics are for loosers. Libertinage all the way!

Not buying meat can help the world

-It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce a 1 pound steak. That is 15 times the amount of water needed to produce the same amount of protein from plant sources.

-By being vegan you save one acre of land each year.

-it takes 16 pounds of grain to produce a one pound steak

-a vegatarian diet uses 15 times less water than a meat based diet

-the raising and production of meat leads to air pollution and increases green house gases, which could be reduced if more people lived a meat free lifestyle

-1 acre of land is required to raise one animal for meat so 1 meat eater will have one meal. 1 acre of land can feed 10 vegetarians many times.

Plus not eating meat from factory farms is ethical.

Why do you think the number of people diagnosed with cancer has increased???

Pollution, stress, genes, toxins, etc.

Meat doesn't support world hunger. Cows are sacred in parts of India and many people there live in hunger.

I tried to be vegan. I really did. But I turned yellow, lost pounds, and just felt like dying.

...That's...that's not even remotely true. Meat does not support world hunger. First of all, MEAT cannot support anything. "The purchasing of meat" can. And it doesn't. There are many families that rely on their livestock being sold or exported to live. Not every family can grow vegetables. And cancer? EVERYTHING gives you cancer, nowadays, I guess, so you can believe whatever you want.

And meat is filled with "bad stuff", yes, but vegetables are as well. There's nothing on this Earth except clean water that's free from "bad stuff" but we can a. cook meat to kill bacteria, and b. trim fat to reduce caloric intake.

And cows are meat. What do cows eat? Corn, hay, etc. What are these? Vegetables. Meat is another way for your body to get vegetables along with important protein. A pork chop alone can give you 100% of your needed daily vegetable intake.

Please don't post statements like that without anything you back it up. You sound paranoid like Dauben and uninformed.

People are free not to eat meat, but just be quiet, don't try to change others, for i want a healthy diet, and that diet includes meat. There is nothing wrong with eating animals, hell they eat us when they get the chance, its a dog eat dog world (no pun intended if there are koreans in the house Wink).

i never really understood some veggies, especially the ones who dont eat meat 'except for chicken and fish', ridiculous, i once met a guy who wouldnt eat meat except fish, that is unless the fish was mashed up and didnt look like a fish...crazy!

if it is a moral issue fine, but by one person not eating meat, just as many animals will die, just as many cows will die...just as many sheep, pigs and many other...but so? if the whole world stopped eating meat there would be a huge food shortage.

anyway just one last thing to all veggies etc, just be glad you live in a society where you can afford to make descions, in many areas you eat what you can get hold of, you live in a well developed nation, to an extent that you can then make decisions such as these, whereas your counterparts in poor nations dont have the options of making executive descions like this...they eat to live, you have the luxary of selecting what you wish to eat.

Humans are only very advanced animals. Where do you draw the line, when does an animal's conciousness reach the level where the pain it feels matters?

Myself, I think it's just a matter of decency to treat animals in a humane way. It's a terrible thing to see an animal in pain. I saw a rabbit in spasms on the side of the road after it was hit by a car. It was just a fleeting glimpse but I haven't forgotten it, it still sort of haunts me *shudder* I wish my dad had had the presence of mind to drive over it there and then, anything would have been better than that jerking around.

My point is animal rights don't only matter from the animal's point of view. They matter because they are a reflection on us.

Uh, this isn't exactly the most sophisticated of arguments, but my dog gets depressed.

Therefore, animals DO have feelings! *slams fist on table*.
