This man is what I call a violent @sshole. And that's not hunting. It's illegal.

Yeah, I think he's shot some stray cats too, but since I don't have proof of it (other than their disappearance), I can't call the cops on him.
Is it illegal in PA? Just wondering.
He eats the squirrels too. Weird.

Hey Slewinca, I noticed your Avatar and wondered, do you ride horses too?

Well, I haven't ridden in a while, but my family has 7 horses, most of them rescued racehorses. Slewinca (the horse in my avatar) is one of them. She's the granddaughter of Seattle Slew by the way (not to be boasting or anything). Most of the ex-racehorses we have probably would have been sent to slaughter because they couldn't race anymore due to injuries (plus most of them weren't the best at racing, including Slewinca). But they're doing pretty well now.

Wasn't this my point about using technology and intelligence to kill animals easier? No matter that in my haste I chose the incorrect stage of human development, my point still stands.

quote:
how come people do not like to manage the human population? Every time somebody does, we call them "tyrants" and "anti-christs" ...go figure.

People DO manage their populations in non-tyranical ways. India is one example. Humans, in modern societies, actually DO manage thier population. It's the third world that is causing the overpopulation problems. In Europe, Russia, the US and Canada, populations have stablized and are actually decreasing in some areas. It's only in areas with agrarian or converting economies where population growth is still a problem.

Also, on local and state levels, which also happen to be the same level that hunting is managed on, human population IS managed here in the united states through a variety of zoning and housing laws. You're from Jersey, you should know this if you pay attention to state politics at all.

Also, your point implies that humans and animals have equal rights. This is untrue in the eyes of most rational people.
My point remains: animal populations still need to be managed.

quote:
Do you think that an animal cannot sustain and survive a gunshot wound? Furthermore, an animal shot with a bow has a greater chance of surviving. Better to give a benefit of the doubt.

So you're saying, if the goal is animal population control, that we should make our job as hard as possible, and also make the animals death and/or wound as painful, bloody, and debilitating as possible?
A gunshot is not a "garunteed" kill. However, it is much more likely that the animal will die, and is signifigantly easier to deliver a lethal shot with a firearm.

You're a sissy! HURR HURR!

You're decent at coming up with witty responses, unfortunately they tend to lack a point.

FreeMarketLover, I feel for you. But you are quite lucky if you consider this story. my cousin was riding in Brazil and his horse broke his leg and he was all alone miles from civilization. And as you know my cousing is in a wheel chair so he could nto walk to town. After two days of being stranded he killed the horse and ate its meat. They found three days later.

Horsey: I had never put down a horse before. We were in Africa and there was no veteranarian with the chemical euthanasia. We had to shoot the horse. Our trainer refused to pull the trigger, I hated to see him in pain so I did it myself. It deeply troubled me for a few weeks and saddens me still. It happened almost a year ago and I've only ridden a few times since.

There are multiple blades on the tip that slice back and forth through the animals flesh as it runs away. This usually leads to a slow, painful, bleeding death. It's like someone sticking a knife inside of you and wiggling it around for a while untill, eventually, you bleed out.

Ha ha..good one FML!! I'm sorry about your horse, I resently had to put a horse down due to an injury and it was the most painful thing I've ever done.
Hey Slewinca, I noticed your Avatar and wondered, do you ride horses too? I haven't seen Bambi in ages either but what I meant was that no respectable hunter would hunt a doe when it was likely she had a young baby who needed her still. Like I said before, hunting can be a good way to control animal populations that would other wise get out of hand and create more rode accidents and such.

Jamaica's Avatar makes me want to go hunting.

For one thing the only people who would shoot a female animal when she has a baby is a POACHER not a hunter. Bambi was written by an anti-hunting person who had no clue.

I haven't seen bambi in a while, but in the movie from what I remember, I don't think bambi was visible to the hunter, so the hunter shot the mother, unaware that she had a fawn.
And that may be the case in real life as well, I don't know.
And since there are doe seasons in many states (including mine, Pennsylvania), I doubt that this has never happened.

If anyone is trying to "get out there agression" by hunting, they'll be severely dissapointed. Sitting in a tree in freezing temperatures for hours on end only to take one or two shots is not going to satiate any needs for agression.

The only type of hunting that should be allowed is the kind where you sharpen a stick, track your prey for 3 days, and then stab it to death. Hunting with a gun is just cowardly and unmanly to me. I'd only be able to respect a guy who hunts if he could take down a bull moose with nothing but a rock.

And for the record Halo II is totally overrated and is not subsitute for knowing how to actually use a real firearm.

nothing more challenging than killing a bird by pulling your finger back and aiming...

You try and hit a target the size of a soda bottle flying latterly at 50 miles an hour, 15 feet above the ground, and 30-40 yards in front of you. If you say that doesn't require some skill, you know NOTHING of shooting and therefore shouldn't be commenting on something you're ignorant of.

Not to mention that even with shotgun and rifle seasons, deer populations are still growing out of control.

Bow hunting is a challenge, but it's not smart wildlife management plan when you've got MUCH better tools at your disposal. It's like saying that we should combat air polution by driving Model T's because modern cars are too comfortable and promote more and better use.

I live in Connecticut/New Jersey depending whether I'm at school or not. I don't show, I play lots of polo. We have hunted in england. But now we might start going to South Africa. Bushsupporter and Marine16 are also big on horses. My father is going to buy me another horse though. My horse (WarPatriot) had to be put down after an accident. I jumped a hedge foxhunting and he broke his legs and severely injured his neck. It was hard, I had owned him since I was young.

I'm not against hunting. I'm against killing endangered species for any reason. Only when hunting for sport becomes an obsession is it all too gore and savage for my taste. But other than that (as long as the species killed is not endangered) hunting is fine by me. I'd prefer the animals' lives to be spared if possible, but due to human nature, it's not like that is ever going to happen.
