In 2006 leading research found that there is a link between red meat consumption and breast cancer, and has also been supported by other independent research in the meantime.
what are peoples thought on this. especially those who are in favour of eating meat?

Are any of us scientist? I'm not thinking so. Then why are we argueing about this? We all have oppinions, those we can debate. But we can't argue with fact. If it is true, than it's true. If it's not true, than it's not. If we were all scientists working at the labs that are doing the reaserch, then I understand. But we aren't. Bushsupporter says it's false, everyone else says it's true. But who are we to know? I don't know which it is because I'm not a scientist. I have not tested this subject. Nor have you.

get over the whole bra and grapefruit thing. if u want to support the whole red-meat eating thing and whether its link to cancer is valid, then come up with a better response or argument. Otherwise don't respond at all. I'm yet to see you even respond intellectually to any valid responses or points made by myself, silent_scream or slinky90, about the whole red meat link to cancer. then again....would we expect any different from a supporter of meat eating?

Not denying that there are a wide variety of things that are linked to different cancers. It is pretty naive to think that "this is the cause of that". I believe that it isn't as simplistic as that. That the increases in cancer and in all it's various forms lies more to do with an accumulation of things and that people who may be high risk anyway, end up suffering from it.
Btw it's not Vitamin E that is linked to cancer, but the free radicals that cells are meant to be protected from. Studies are underway to determine whether vitamin E, through its ability to limit production of free radicals, might help prevent or delay the development of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Vitamin E is linked to lung cancer. Thought I'd throw that out there.

lol. typical response. it has nothing to do with omitting red meat from your diet - it's the type of red meat. and i doubt processed meat has been around for thousands of years. plus, the animals slaughtered for your comsumption are not the same as those raised or killed thousands of years ago (as in agri-science). Yeah, meat has been in the human diet for thousands of years...but not in such large quantites and type. there is a definite link between diet, lifestyle and cancer. if red meat is a cause, less meat eaters in the world. bring it on! but then again..who are we to argue with "nature". anyway, like mentioned before, if "science" is the truth, and it came out that red meat is a definite cause, will you take stock in it? of course not. Hey, eat as much red meat as you want. hell, eat as much grapefruit and ponce around in a bra, the fact is red meat is linked to cancer. keep on shovelling it in. just don't cry when you're diagnosed with a cancer and expecting a hopeful cure. don't take responsibility for your choices. its more to do with REDUCTION....don't fret you can have your meat, just a rump and not the whole damn cow. ps> i can't stand grapefruit.

i know, silent. A researcher at my uni was just approved for a $300,000 grant to study the link between pancreatic cancer and alcoholism. And he is a strong supporter of animal based research and will be using the new baboon facility. There have many other studies already that have clearly established the link between the two. Furthermore, another researcher has been fighting the grant committee for over 2 years in the hope of a $150,000 grant in looking into preventative measures in breast cancer risk. just don't get me started on any more examples

i agree. in my opinion the true victims are the animals. sh!ts me that they have to suffer because of human ignorance, speciest philosophy, stupidity and lack of responsibility. humans are on a self destruct path anyway. if there are more causes then thats Natures way of fobbing off this destructive species.

for such a self procliamed notion that humans are the most intelligent species on this planet, their actions and decisions always reflect the opposite.
Simply put, even when people are aware of the risks of their choices, they will still do what they do. People just think it won't happen to them, and if it does, then let's shove pharmaceuticals down our throat in hope of a cure.
The only ones that win out of this are the Meat producers, the industries that rely on people's stupidity and habits, as well as the pharmaceutical companies and researchers.
If you're a smoker and suffer from lung cancer, as an example, I won't shed a tear or thought of you, same goes for those who suffer from heart attacks or strokes because of their lifestyle choices. We are in control of what choices we make.
The ones that end up suffering because of human stupidity and lack of responsibility are the animals that are slaughtered and the ones tested on.

Don't be silly! And I've learnt my lesson when dealing with avid pro meat eaters. No matter what is out there that supports the negatives of meat eating, they will never acknowledge it. So I'm not here to convince you to stop eating the stuff. Just stop living in denial that it is the healthiest thing to eat, when it may not be. And it's not just meat, its the type of meat, how much is eaten and other lifestyle choice too. Do you need to be blind to not see the increase in cancers and our lifestyle choices? And considering that meat makes up a large part of the western diet, then there has to be something there to think about. Never mentioned NOT wearing bras, just look into having bras that are of right support. And how many people eat grapefruit compared to fatty red meats? i doubt the average person will eat half the amount of grapefruit in their lifetime, compared to the amount of red meat or processed meat. And why not? If smoking has been linked to cancer for sure, then don't smoke. If you don't want the risk of increasing the chances of cancer, then minimise that risk. Not claiming people should stop eating meat, just minimise meat intake and the sort of meat eaten...mainly fatty red meat and processed meat. simple. Even if it is definitely proven that red meat is a definite link to cancers, I doubt that pro meat eaters will minimise or stop eating it. One just has to look at the number of smokers out there. The reason why I raised it is because to dispel the tightly held belief that red meat is the only and greatest benefit to your health, when in fact it isnt that at all, and may have a negative impact on one's health. you didnt answer my question, either.

i'm not denying that there are other factors involved. I've looked at Google, too and also research papers, and aware of other contributors. doesnt negate the fact that if you dont want to increase the risk then dont do the things that could put you at a higher risk, so if fatty red meat and processed meat is a link, then dont eat it. obesity: lose weight, re-assess your diet and lifestyle lack of exercise: exercise more which will also help with obesity abortions: unless in case of rape or legit accident, then take responsibility for your sexual actions smoking: simple. dont smoke bras: well, this wont help the males (altho man boobs are on the increase), but for women, choose the right bra grapefruit: don't eat it antibiotics: don't take as much, or if medical, try other alternatives if possible, address the reason stress: this is lifestyle. assess and readdress the issue osteoporosis: calcium supplements, get more vitamin D and eat less high protein foods. Fatty red meat and processed meat: don't eat. simple its not a case of ethnics and culture. its diet. give an example of any bad health links with eastern diets? you may not take stock of the negatives of meat consumption, but do you take stock of all the so called benefits of it without questioning? just curious
