I am not a small person by any means, besides being tall I also weigh 223lbs most of that weight being on my chest and hips. One of my past boyfreinds jokingly said he would marry me if I had lyposuction to "lighten me up for the honey moon" After smacking him soundly , because really that hurt a lot. I told him I'd die before I had lyposuction because it allowed people to obtain the perfect body with out any self disipline or effort to change the life style that made them big in the first place. A while latter I was having a conversation with my cousin who was considering a gastric bypass.

Now my cousin has never been a small person , when he was six-teen he had to be taken to be weighed on cow scales because he was so big, but he and my great aunt and uncle have tried every diet for him imaginable and his latest attemp ( the south beach diet I beleive) had filed him as well.

A gastric by pass is a surgery where they remove a protion of the stomach and lower intestine to force your body to digest food faster. This also makes your stomach smaller so that you can't hold a large ammount of food. all surgery complications aside this also meant that to keep enough calories in his body to burn he'd need to eat five or six meals a day . My cousin ended up not getting the surgery and has decided to just give up on losing weight and concentrate on enjoying his life but it made me wonder as well. certanly there are a few cases were comsetic surgery has been abused by pop stars and actresess who pay houndreds of thousands of dollars a year to keep a some what younger looking face, but what of those who could actually use or need a surgery like gastric by pass or lypo suctuion?

Is cosmetic surgery really necissary in some cases or no?

Silmarwan, That's really interesting. I have heard of success stories with gastric bypass surgery. I think most people can lose weight through diet and exercise, but some people are so obese that surgery is more critical in saving that person's life. I wonder if anyone has any ideas to encourage daily exercise and healthy eating to help promote better health and a healthy weight. There have been youth who have started organizations and projects to encourage exercise and healthy eating. Some of these people had the help of www.youthventure.org which gave them money to start their organization to better their community.

I think that i some cases that it is necessary!! Like if it a life or death case that if you dont get gastic by pass or lypo you are at a risk of dieing!! but its not necessary if you want cosmetic surgery to get a nose like ashley simpson!! god made you the way you are and you shouldnt change it you body is you templ so why are you going to "remodel" it. People get cosmetic surgery (and dont even need it) and they end up becoming addicted and change theirselves so much that their own family cant even recognize them!!!! now in that case it isnt necessary!!!!

Sorry for any confusion LTR! I only meant that in MOST CASES, I'm against, but IN the FEW TYPES OF CASES I decribed, I am for plastic surgery.

Which is why I said that in same cases, as in one of the author of this board's brother, I would make an exception to my dislike of plastic surgery.

If the person is abnormally overweight or in some other way impeded from a comfortable life (i.e.: severe heart problems), then I say yay to surgery for them.

Sometimes it is neccessary. If your life is in danger then it is definately worth the scars and recooperation time.

How'd he get so big?

I am somewhat against lyposuction and other plastic surgeries, but I suppose that in the case of someone like your brother I'd make an exception.
An overweight person shouldn't resort to surgery to make their bodies smaller, not only because of the economic frivolousness it'd ensue, and the fact that it's quite gross, but also because it's unnatural, unneccessary, and not worth all the scars and recooperation time. Diet and exercise should do it with time instead.

What a lovely way to put it.

Gastric Bypass is only reccommend if a patient couldn't lose weight by dietary means. The surgery isn't a solution to weight poblems either. You still need to eat healthy and exersize.

There's nothing wrong with a gastric bypass if you feel like you can't control your indulgence and greed, it'll help you. There is no need to be overweight in our society, we don't need the fat to keep warm its purely a cosmetic thing anyway, so if you want cosmetic surgery why not? If you think it's going to make you feel better in yourself and it isn't going to restrict your duty to live. Considering our society has decided its important to care about how good you look and what the perfect look is it's no wonder cosmetic surgery is around.

And what your boyfriend said to you was totally out of order.
But then is it necessary to over endulge?
