Here's something to think about (I'm gonna work on this as a future article).

The hype over "I'm too fat," or, "that has too many calories" is all just a bunch of media-bred hype and bull****.

If you think about it real long and hard, who puts those nutrition facts on our food packages?

It's the government.

And knowing that your government never even once -- ONCE -- told the truth about anything ever in this filthy world, how do you expect to believe them that say, tuna fish has 13 grams of protein?

How do they even KNOW there are 13 grams of protein in each can of tuna fish?

How do they KNOW there are only 200 calories in baked French bread (just throwing numbers here)?

How does the FDA and USDA know that cabbage has 4 dietary sugars per half-ounce serving?

To me, this is all a bunch of bull****. We've been had over the nutrition facts.

If we went by what God's law said, about not eating pork (I sin, what can I say, it's really good), or scavenger fish, or fish with scales...and didn't eat red meat (crap!), then we'd be really healthy.

If we stuck to dietary laws that made sense, rather than nutrition "facts" from the government, we'd lose two massive industries: health care (that includes diet books, hospitals, lawyers and such) and all sorts of diet fads and workout gyms...even grocery store chains.

I dunno, something to think about...

They know how many calories because there are nutrition researchers who work with food and see how many acids and other stuff are in food. Ever 4 calories is one carb i think. Dieticians, nutritionists and researchers have to go through chemistry to determine what is in each food. Of course, none can be totally exact. The reasons why diets fail is because of many reasons. Low carbs usually gets rid of all carbs when there are both good and bad ones. Bad carbs are in sweets and good ones are in things like wheat, etc. Sometimes its genetic. Most of what people really need to do is too eat smaller portions, eat balaced meals (dont skip breakfast!), excercise, and drink water. Supplement vitamins are always good. You can have something like pizza, which has a lot of calories, but drinking it with water balances it out so that you dont drink a soda that adds more.

Well it's quite simple. They burn it in a calorimeter. I've done that before (not with French bread mind you, ha) to see how accurate things were. It's pretty much on. Obviously it can vary a bit.

But you really have to ask this: WHY would they lie to us when anyone with a few peices of lab equipment show them wrong? I totally reject your "health care/diet fad" conspiracy for two reasons:

One, I've used these facts to drastically improve my own health, dropping 70-80 lbs with good blood pressure and nutrition all around.

Two, the government doesn't NEED this conspiracy to support those industries because people do that just fine themselves. Have you seen how people eat? Even people on diets? The problem is that people dont READ the facts and fuck up thier diet with a 1000 calorie meal.

If you're looking for a conspiracy in the food/health industry look elsewhere Joey. There's plenty of other angles to hit that from. Marketing, preventive medicine vs. treatment, etc.

True, the government can be deceptive and sneaky, but they can't lie about nutrition facts. What they CAN lie about is the stuff they put into your food. Like MSG, GMOs, and all the chemicals and preservatives they put in the stuff you eat.
I can't say I've done the research about the nutrition facts, but I have looked into all the crap they're throwing into food these days. As far as I'm concerned, nutrition facts are all science. The deceptive part comes from what makes up those calories.

And the food pyramid changes as you get older. Little kids don't really need THAT much food, adolescents need the equivalent of 4 dairies a day and more than 2-3 meats, while the elderly are encouraged to get more fruits and vegetables. The pyramid is truly made for an approximate age group from about 25-40. And its only a guideline. Imagine if we didn't have it; would we truly know what to have and how much to have?

Well, you do. You're supposed to have 6 or so servings of grain/bread a day. it is the serving size that is messed up.

Joey,
to let you know the government doesn't have all the say in what goes on those labels. And although image is way overplayed in our society obesity is a HUGE problem in our counrty especially! And what do u think people like the USDA do all day sit around and do nothing!!! They do hava say on whta goes on those labels. You can say whatever you want, but put a little more thought into the "bull****" on those labels. Wink

Well, the food pyramid has always been a tad senseless.

Do you guys remember the old school food pyramid from when we were in elementary school?
They renounced it because it had people thinking they needed a total of like 7 servings of the bread group every day. Funny stuff.

Well, Joey, if you are obese, it's not bull****. It's your health.
