There are approximately a billion things you do in your daily life that will help the environment more than not eating meat. If you feel bad about the enivonrmental impact of meat consumption, then do other things. Specifically encourage water conservation, as that's the main problem with beef agriculture. In the US, our environment is more than capable to support efficient beef agriculture. The problems with meat consumption will arise in other countries that have more severe water problems. So if you live in the US, Canada, or Europe, you're not doing anything severely detrimental to your environment if you eat free range meat.
