I would have protested, but didn't have the money. And if I knew I would go to jail, I wouldn't have gone. I'm a prisonbitch waiting to happen...

quote: YV, did you know that the Sudan has agreed to allow a UN official to observe Darfur? Thought you'd like to know. I've got sources, but I'll have to find them.
Thanks Hubba for that information. When you get those sources let me know please. That is really crazy FOD. And I wish there was a club like that in my college Hubba...though I'm not really sure if their is or not, I'm going to find out.

Yeah really, it was in our school newspaper and one of the girls who was arrested had to miss a few TKD classes (I'm in it as well), which was how I had originally found out.

Really? That's wacky. My sister's school has a whole club devoted to it. The "Save Darfur Club." She's in it. I'm going to that school next year...don't know if I'll join the club or not.

I see, that is very interesting on_shallow. I know what you mean, it makes me feel the same way. I will keep you posted, but you can also go to the websites I posted before and sign up for them to send you any news on the Darfur issue. That way you will always be sure to have the right information.

On_shallow_ground You can get a hold of an awareness bracelet on this page . You can also help by sending this postcard to the president urging him to protect the civilians in Darfur and live up to his promise when he had said before "Not on my watch." There are other ways to help and spread awareness, like posting flyers around your school campus and writting to your newspaper editors asking them to cover the situation in Dafur. There is also a rally to Stop Genocide coming up in April 30th at Washington, Dc. If you are close by, I urge you to go and support this. Thank you for taking the time to read about the situation in Darfur and also thank you for having a heart to want and do something about it.

Yeah, I know about the bracelets. I want to get one myself as well as a shirt. It's true, it's a good way to make people curious about what Darfur is all about.

when I was at the holocaust museum I bought a "Save Darfur" bracelet. You can buy one if you wish, they are doubly good on that if you buy the bracelet the money goes to Darfur and also that people ask you "who's Darfur???" And then you explain about the genocide and such. go here if you wish to know more... www.savedarfur.org

I just emailed my representative in the House of Representatives to urge him to vote in favor of funding for African Union peacekeepers in Darfur. They are voting on whether or not they will today. You should do the same! Here is a link where you can find their info and maybe email them, maybe even call them.

quote: Darthrevan's idea that there's nothing we can do saddens and frightens me. Doesn't that attitude go against all that youth noise stands for?
He does have a point though. The government is not permitting the aid to get to the people that need it. quote: I'm going to let people at my shcool know about this: if I didn't know, there are certainly others who don't.
Please do. People must know, they have to find out. quote: What's the next step? I think that writing letters to government officials there or lcoally would be good, often that can spur people into motion
True. I was thinking about doing that myself. quote: any other ideas?
What about writting to your local newspapers and ask for coverage about Darfur? That way more people in your town can find out about it. quote: Thanks for bringing this up, YV. I didn't even know this was happening but like every other injustance, it is important. No need to thank me yogore. I'm just doing my duty. quote: I think you're all right when you say awareness is all that we can do, but we must also pursuade our politicians to do something. In this case, I think international diplomacy and action could stop many of these injustaces.
You are very right on that. That is why I was urging people to go to the millionvoicesfordarfur website. There, you can send a letter to the president. I think that the link I put doesn't work anymore. Here is the link again.

Darthrevan's idea that there's nothing we can do saddens and frightens me. Doesn't that attitude go against all that youth noise stands for? but i admit the solution to this problem is hard because as Darthrevan pointed out, senidng money or invading would not work. So what can we do? The first step is most definitly to spread awareness, as we're doing right now. I'm going to let people at my shcool know about this: if I didn't know, there are certainly others who don't. What's the next step? I think that writing letters to government officials there or lcoally would be good, often that can spur people into motion (proof:amnesty international.) any other ideas?
