Why is it that people only seem to care about others in need when a Natural Disaster occurs? When Katrina happened, there were countless drives, countless donations made to the disaster relief fund, but not many ever really donate to people who live in bad conditions every day without ever having gone with a disaster. The same goes for school shootings, and for the wildfires going right now. Why do we only ever notice, why do we only ever care, when it's a big deal? Why do we let everyone else fall through the cracks?

Who has time to care? Most people work all day, come home to their families and then go out again after work for their kids sports or activities.

We're too busy to be concerned about social ills that will never go away.

If you ask me, people aren’t as ignorant as we see them to be. Most people are aware of what’s going on in the world, and they want to help, they just don’t know how. When a big disaster comes along, there’s just more opportunity, so people jump at the chance.

I think it is an "out of sight, out of mind" situation, and if the media wasn't so busy with Lindsay Lohans latest rehab stint, or some racially motivated speel on crime they may have some time to spotlight the less fortunate, the homeless, the abuse, and the starving, right here in America.

I think the media is very irresponsible because they have so much power to motivate and inform people, but they are too busy focusing on pop culture and the most gruesome crimes they can find.

It could also be that people are ignorant to what is happening in the world around them unless it is constantly being played on nation news, like Katrina was.

I think I must be because most people don't care. They don't care that someone is starving on the streets. When something sudden happens I think people are shocked out of their bubble. I think people could relate more to the victims of disasters.
