It is well know that the East is expanding. The middle class in China is growing with exceeding rapiditiy and this amy lead to an economic tip from the US to China. I know many of you will not agree, but from an outside perspective, this is how it appears.

Since China may well be the biggest block in a new booming east, a large political powershift will happen, turning things in favour of China. Therefore, should we all learn Mandarin instead of say, French or Spanish as a second language? I know that last year the first secondry school in England began to teach Mandarin instead of French as thir second language. Opinions? No doubt many...

Well, insted of being forced to take Mandarin there should just an added option of Manderain along with French and Spanish.
Then again I have a warped view, for I'm half asian, and I dont speak Manderain. I say if kids want it let it be! Especially if they are intrested in learning a language! Some kids compleatly hate languages. Some only would like to know one or two.

... Now that I think about it, is there such thing as knowing no language?...

But yogore, logic doesn't have a grammar structure because its not a language of itself.

Logic isn't based on grammar, but grammar should be based on logic. Not complicated logic, simple logic. If there is a rule that "a" sounds like "ah" it should always sound like that. That's what i mean by logic.

But yogore, logic doesn't have a grammar structure because its not a language of itself. And believe me, I'm taking a course in logic right now and its full of double negatives and confusing set-ups. You would not want to have to talk like that.

Logic isn't a language though. Its a way of reasoning things

Reason is logic. I was refering to the grammar structure. The more logical it is, the easier the language is to master.

Logic isn't a language though. Its a way of reasoning things. Unless you mean we should all talk like this:
all A is B
B is C
therefore all A is C
...how fun would that be?

But either way, about having a universal language, I think the damage has already been done...and English wins Smile

What language would be based on "Logic" yogore? I know alot of people that can't get logical problems or situations figured out, ha.

English, also, is not really "composed" of different languages. It's merely incorporated some vocabulary from others as it's come in contact with different cultures around the globe. It's still basically a germanic language in structure though. It's by no means a mish-mash of various tounges.

Give me a week and I'll finish "hello" in basic which being based on math is a logical language

English is illogical because it's one of the most flexible, diverse, and descriptive languages out there. And certainly the most prolific. It makes sense to make it the global language.

i don't think i could ever learn mandarin in writing form. everything is too picture like and i would just mess it up. however it would be cool to learn just so you could converse with 2 billion more people.

Okay...so I have beef with something and this board is the one to hear about it.

I hate speaking English as my first language. People who start off life learning ANY other language, they learn a single other language, English and they are pretty much set for life.

On the other hand...I began my life speaking English. I decided that I was going to learn one language and I chose Spanish...I'm pretty decent at it and it is a language that I may actually use once or twice in my life in the US. However, do you think if I go to a country that speaks a different language they are going to see it that way? Absolutely not...they'll see me as an arrogant American who is too self-centered to learn their language.

Now doesn't that stink...
