Hey everyone, there's this amazing company called American Apparel that you ought to check out. They make awesome t-shirts and other knitwear, but the cool thing about them is that they don't use sweatshops, they don't outsource and they don't exploit their labor. They employ mostly immigrants from Latin America, and the average hourly wage for a factory worker is $13. They also have access to health and dental insurance, free ESL classes, and free on-site massages. By supporting American Apparel, you are effing the punks at Hanes, the Gap, etc. who pay six-year-olds in China nine cents an hour to make their products. Visit www.americanapparel.net. Thanks for looking!

Of course. I'm not that low and immoral. But as a point of clarification, by showing provacative advertisments like that, American Apparel is using a very good marketing strategy. Any men who visit the site see a sexy woman wearing American Apparel clothes. Thus, they figure that sexy women are somehow related to American Apparel. So they want to buy American Apparel in order to...date sexy women, or something like that. It's playing on the fact that the guys are too busy staring at the pictures to notice the price tags, and so on.

So does pretty much every clothing advertisement ever made. But I agree, the American Apparel pictures are worthy of having a spot on a striptease. Good thing I bookmarked that site.

I think it's a great idea having a sweatshop free store. But they don't need to advertise sex in the process!

And reasonably priced, too. I've forever wondered why Nike shoes are so expensive, yet labor costs are almost nil. Ah well.
