I got this in an email and I've decided to participate.

"April 25 in the Day of Silence. It's a day when students take a vow of silence for the whole, or part, day. It's symbolic to the silence that most LGBT students face, because of Anti-Gay Harassment. So, please show support guys! Print out this next passage (like make fliers) and hand -em out on the day of!

Silent for Lawrence King:
Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement bringing attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is cause by anti LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment. This year's DOS is held in memory of Lawrence King, a 15 year old student who was killed in school because of his sexual orientation."

A bunch of kids in my school, including me participated in The Day Of Silence. It was a huge eye opener. Many students would ask why I even supported "people like that" It really made me upset that there are so many people that are not tolerable of people that are different than them.

My school is against it!! I totally couldn't beleive it! Over half of the students at my school participated and most of them got sent to the principal's office! I was really close to it, but I had to choose my school record or being silent and sadly I chose to give up silence for like 2 seconds to make my teacher happy. She said that I was "Desturbing others' learning" by being silent. What are they learning from basketball? And I wasnt like advertising it! I was playing basketball with them and just not talking! She made me sit out for the rest of the day. She called my dad, too but itss better than being sent to the principal's office! Some teachers were cool with it though! The chorus teacher didn't talk or sing for the whole day! And she has to for her job! The principal is against it though. If he fouind out that 1/8 teachers supported it, they would all be fired! lol good thing he didnt find out!
