In 2007, USA witnessed the launch of a project known as B Corporation (B Corp.). B Corp. is a certification given to any organization (mainly for profit organizations) whose purpose is the promotion of the well-being of all stakeholders, and not just the shareholders.

Being certified as a B Corp., means that an organization follows the stakeholder well-being approach, in letter and spirit. Such an organization incorporates social and environmental sustainability, employee involvement etc. into the legal framework of the company. By the beginning of August 2009, 190 companies were certified as a B Corp.

There is a necessity that we, as citizens, need to support such positive endeavors from companies that promote well-being of the society. We can support these companies in a number of ways - whenever we buy any products/ services, we can buy products/ services of companies that are socially and environmentally responsible.
