Do you remember the get out the vote campaigns for the 2004 presidential election? They worked pretty well but presidential elections always have a significantly higher turnout rate than do local elections. It is a pity because community politics can affect people so much more directly than national politics in many ways. I think we need to start getting excited about the people who run the places where we live!!

But I do agree with your sentiment. My mayor affects everyday life as nuch if not more so than my U.S. Senators do.
