i once read about a program that lets girls with disabilities dance. It was taught by a physical therapist and each girl had a helper, a trained teenager that helped them turn and jump. I would love to set something up like that in my town. The only problem is that i am 14 and have no clue where to begin. I don't know a physical therapist who could help me get it started, i don't know where i could do it, or where to get all the supplies. The only thing i am sure i could get are volunteers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hey have you got a nice dance teacher or arts teacher that will help you, u dont really have to have a physical theoripist.... ask too get a halll somewhere or if you have a good space in your home, put posters everywhere by advertising it, going through school is a great pathway... if you have a city or town council your principle could help you reach them....
well i hope these are any help Smile
thats a great ambition!

Wow, that sounds like a really cool idea; if there is any way I can help let me know! My sister is 11 and she has a physical disability - brachial(sp?) plexus palsy. I know she would love something like that.

For starters, for a physical therapist, you could try a couple of different places. The first would be to try your local hospital - chances are they have a physical therapist. Another place might be a chiropractic center. There are often PTs working there.

This sounds like a really neat idea. If you want to NoiseMail me, and you live near my area, there are several physical therapists I could put you in contact with.

Yeah, they do. My sister's would be super-enthusiastic...

contact said program

I'm sure they'd be happy to help you out with materials on training and such

Then contact some PT offices around town and ask if any of their staff would be intrested in volunteering for such a program (I'd bet yes, PT's love that type of thing)
