Why should we have to import oil from Saudi, when we have our own resources...because you want to save a bunch of ice. I have pictures of the line from where they want to drill, and I'll tell you what, they can only drill in the winter, and there are no animals near by. All of the darn environmentalists need to get their facts straight before they start trying to protest something they should be for. Not only will it help boost the economy, but imagin a world where you don't have to pay over $2 for a gallon of gas.

bull**** dude. that would take up space, and oil spills could be disasterous. anyway, it's a REFUGE. if we don't preserve these areas, they'll just go to hell

I was born in Alaska and have talked to many people that live there, and they are surprised at people's ignorance when it comes to drilling there. They won't be harming any animals, and the amount of space they will be drilling from, is quite small. There are many myths out there concerning the drilling in Alaska, I hope that soon they will be cleared.

quote: THe first place that you are wrong is the most simple - the name. It's called the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
So far, I know of four different names for this place (all found on ye olde Internet): -Alaska National Wildlife Reserve -Alaska Natural Wildlife Refuge -Arctic National Wildlife Reserve -Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Now that we've got that all cleared up... Aside from the fact that drilling in Alaska would harm the environment beyond repair, there actually isn't even that much usable oil in Alaska. Once we get the oil out and purified, we'll have used up an equal amount trying to get to the oil and what does that leave us with? No oil and a nasty looking Alaska wilderness. Here are the biggest anti-drilling arguments from http://www.savearcticrefuge.org:*Drilling today will do nothing to affect prices at the pump - any oil recovered wouldn't reach market for ten years! *The area targeted for drilling - the coastal plain - is the refuge's biological heart -- home to polar bears, musk oxen, wolves, millions of migratory birds, caribou and hundreds of other species. *Drilling would destroy Americans' most pristine wilderness in order to recover -- at most -- a six month supply of oil! Think about it. Why bother with Alaska when we can help Russia get the incredible oil in their country?

You could not be more wrong, and you should be embarrassed by your own ignorance. THe first place that you are wrong is the most simple - the name. It's called the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If you can't even get the name right, it's hard to believe that you could be right on anything else. The National Academy of Sciences has released a report - at the request of the Bush Administration - that details the harm that has come to native animal and native people populations because of oil drilling in nearby Prudhoe Bay. The technology that you spoke about produces more than 400 toxic spills a year in Northern Alaska alone. There is significant damage - it is irrefutable. Lastly, it is clearly not a liberal cause to protect and save this area. It was set asside by Republican President Eissenhower. Many GOP leaders currently work to keep it protected; John McCain and Olympia Snowe to name a few. So, get your facts straight before you start talking.
