THe first place that you are wrong is the most simple - the name. It's called the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
So far, I know of four different names for this place (all found on ye olde Internet):
-Alaska National Wildlife Reserve
-Alaska Natural Wildlife Refuge
-Arctic National Wildlife Reserve
-Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Now that we've got that all cleared up...
Aside from the fact that drilling in Alaska would harm the environment beyond repair, there actually isn't even that much
usable oil in Alaska. Once we get the oil out and purified, we'll have used up an equal amount trying to get to the oil and what does that leave us with? No oil and a nasty looking Alaska wilderness. Here are the biggest anti-drilling arguments from
http://www.savearcticrefuge.org:*Drilling today will do nothing to affect prices at the pump - any oil recovered wouldn't reach market for ten years!
*The area targeted for drilling - the coastal plain - is the refuge's biological heart -- home to polar bears, musk oxen, wolves, millions of migratory birds, caribou and hundreds of other species.
*Drilling would destroy Americans' most pristine wilderness in order to recover -- at most -- a six month supply of oil!
Think about it. Why bother with Alaska when we can help Russia get the incredible oil in their country?
The more you know, the less you don't know.
