from wikipedia: quote: There are many theories regarding the origin of this custom. One well known and strongly believed theory is that it began as a blessing near the start of the Plague of Justinian or one of the more minor plagues which followed with the words of Pope Gregory the Great. Crowds took to the streets praying to God and when a person sneezed they were immediately blessed God bless you! for fear that they may be developing symptoms of the plague.
Also, it says it is only a legend that your heart stops. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

I was always told that started during the some epidemic (I don't remember which one, maybe the black plague) they would bless you because the disease started with sneezing. But what you said is cool no matter where it came from.

Yep, I think we're mostly talking resting heart rate here. You're right though.

um doesnt the amount of heartbeats per minute also depend on like what ur doing (i.e. sitting, standing, excersizing) and even like what ur thinking? cause if u get excited ur heart rate increases.
and also if u are a taller person u tend to have a higher resting heart rate because the blood has more of a distance to travel in order to circulate through your whole body and back to ur heart

Umm...I don't mean to be rude, but we had already said that before. That's exactly what we were discussing on the posts below. see? quote: I heard that just like your fingerprints, every heartbeat is different and there is no heartbeat that is the same in the world.

I have a cool fact about heart beats. Everyone's heart beat is unique to them, like fingerprints. No one's heart beats exactly the same way. Pretty cool.

It's not the pulse rate, but the rhythm thereof. There are different patterns. There is regular normal, irregular abnormal and irregular abnormal. The only one that worries docotors is irregular abnormal. Names vary, but it's the same idea. Regular normal is steady and rythmic. Regular abnormal is maybe 1-1-break-1-1-break-1-1-break, or something, but it's a detectable pattern. Irregular abnormal is here there, everywhere, helter-skelter.

No worries whiteteeth. quote: I would think someone in the world would have the same number of beats as SOMEBODY else.
It is not that they don't have the same number of beats per minute, which would be range. It is that the way your hearbeats is not the same as anyone else in the world.

I heard that just like your fingerprints, every heartbeat is different and there is no heartbeat that is the same in the world. Of course there should be a healthy range of heartbeats per minute, but that's something else. I don't knwo what the range is, does anyone?

yeah but mainly heart beat depends on your personal health
