Okay, there's only like one thread in here about teachers, and it's only about BAD teachers. Even though we tend to talk more about teachers we hate, I think most of us have at least one teacher who is just awesome. The really cool teachers tend to get less attention than the bad ones, and that really isn't fair. SO, do you have any awesome teachers? Tell us about them and why you love 'em.....this place could use a more positive thread! -teach-

Mr. Runyon, 8th Grade Rights and Responsibilities - One of our tests was a poetry slam about something having to do with history, or a specific historic event. He had current events discussions practically every day, which was awesome because most kids I know don't know anything about today's world, news-wise. Mr. G, 8th Grade Physical Science - Didn't take crap from anyone. You could sleep in his class, sure, but then it wasn't his fault when you failed the final exam. Sarcastic, which was cool because he was one of the few people who really get my sense of humor. Mrs. Nelson, 8th Grade English - Poetry Slam as a final exam. o.0 Freaking awesome. Realized that I was a little bit above the other kids in my class and offered me assignments so I'd feel challenged. Mr. Smith, 9th Grade Honors English - Young, so he relates to us more. (I'm a freshman as of currently.) He comes up with inventive ideas. Listens to independent music, which I think is so much more interesting than mainstream, same with movies, he watches indie. We listen to songs that we think have some greater message, like what's our purpose in life, why do people do the things they do, how does the media affect teens and children, partly things that we came up with. Just an all-around great guy.

Well, I must say that I, myself, do indeed hate some teachers, but I do have a few teachers that have impacted my life in an unimaginable way. My home life was never really all that great, so I always looked to my teachers for support and comments. In seventh grade, I had a teacher whom I fought constantly with. It was to the point where I spent most of my time in the principal's office complaining about her. One day in class, I sort of exploded at her, though I can't quite remember aboutm what, and after school, I wrote her an apology letter and explained my doings and gave it to her the next day. After that, we started writing to each other, and by the end of the year, we were practically best friends. Over the summer, she and I continued to write to each other, and now that I am in eighth grade, she and I get together a lot and have talks. It's really neat. There are a lot of things that I have struggled with this year, but this particular teacher saved my life. When I thought suicide, she sought me help, and she was there through it all for me. I owe this teacher a lot, but I am so grateful to her that she has given me the advice she has and has been there for me when she has been!

My world geography teacher- wow. She's tought, really tough- and she lives up to her reputation of making anyone's freshman year a pain. (work overload.. etc.)
But despite the bad press she gets, you can tell she's really passionate about her profession. Personally, I think she's great (though many beg to differ). She makes you WANT to pay attention to what shes teaching and WANT to understand what's going on. I really admire her.
We need more teachers like mine.

I have this really great yearbook teacher, she is one of the coolest. She is always worried about how we are doing, and make sure that we are doing fine. If she hears rumors about us, she is always talking to us about what was said, and to make sure that they aren't true. She is also down on our level, like i said, always willing to help. She is just the coolest teacher i have ever had.

I just want to say that I really did have a lot of great teachers in high school. I posted about a teacher who sexually harassed me some time ago, but aside from him I got along with all of my teachers even if I didn't like all of their subjects and teaching methods. A few in particular who I thought were really good teachers were my history teacher Ms.D(she also helped me when she talked to me and gave me a hug after someone very important to me passed away...I really appreciated that she cared and was there if I needed to talk), my literature teacher Mrs.W, my spanish teacher Ms.B, my early childhood education/literature teacher the other Mrs.W, and my fourth grade teacher Mrs.C. It takes a lot of energy, patience, effort, and caring to be a truly good teacher.I am grateful to all of the teachers who helped me.

i have had so many good teachers and so few bad ones. because i was in advanced courses i got all the good teachers. i wish everyone could have the really talented ones...they make such a big difference. i guess i will say that my math teacher my junior and senior years of high school was probably my most talented teacher being able to motivate a very non-math oriented person to take honors calc at the university. its thanks to him that i passed.

I've had three really good teachers during the course of my life. Dr.Carroll, who absolutely changed my life, Mr.Baker, who was an excellent psychology teacher, and Ms.Palomar, a math teacher who I really bonded with (and she gave me a card at the end of the year)

The only teacher in my school i found is really willing to listen to what we have to say would be my homeroom teacher, Mrs Howe. She's an awesome teacher and you can talk to her about anything.

One of the best teachers I have ever had is my PAP Physical Science teacher. He was a wonderful teacher and was quite funny. He didn't just let everyone goof off and stuff though, which is nice because I can't stand teachers that let people do whatever. He also put up with my "nonsense" like the fact that the chairs we had in the lab rotated and it amused me to no end, and he didn't seem too frightened when me and my friend's study habits consisted of singing and dancing at our table before the test... The best teacher in the world is my mom though because...she's my mom and yeah. She teaches Special Education, which she has a Master's in, and she also has a Bachelor's degree in Business. I honestly think she deserves Teacher of the Year, but people seem to think that Special Ed. teachers aren't actual teachers, which angers me greatly because most of those teachers work ten times harder than others. People just don't appreciate their work.

I've been lucky enough to have some of the best teachers in our district. Ms. Rosenbaum, 4th grade (she's married and has a son now) Mr. Curcurio, 6th grade math Mrs. Wusterbarth, 8th grade English (At first, I hated her. Now, since I've grown up, I've realized what an amazing person she is and how much I admire her) Mr. Klotz, 9th grade civics (He's probably the closest thing to my mentor) Mrs. Berka, 11th grade English and 12th grade Writers Workshop (She tells *great* stories, and has taught me what good writing is) and Mrs. Donovan, G/T (Challenge) teacher (I hated her when she was my teacher, but she's so cool, actually. Part of the reason why I want to be a gifted ed. teacher, too.) And yeah, I've had a fair share of bad teachers too. One of note: Mme Siewert, who is the devil incarnated.

My Language Arts teacher is the best ever. She's always into community service and she helps the kids who need it most. The best thing is that she understands and she won't lie. She realizes what will make us learn and uses those techniques. When someone has the hiccups, she'll scream and make them go away because you're so scared. She has earrings that say in one ear out the other. All of my classmates and I always look forward to that class the most. I think its awesome when someone like that can actually relate to the kids rather than push them away.

I have a few cool teachers, more than I expected. My French and biology teachers are pretty much souless, but my English and history teachers rock. They both are willing to talk to and help out their students (which is what teachers are there for really, but a lot at my school aren't like that [which could just be because their students are so apathetic and don't care if their teachers want to reach them]). I guess I like them because they'll talk politics with me and don't give me that "you're insane" look that I tend to get.

My coolest teacher is my earth science teacher. I have a lot of things on my mind right now and she is so cool at helping me figure them out. She has a degree in counseling (as well as science). And is just about the coolest person I know. She is like an older sister or someone like that... The kind of person you never want to loose contact with. All of you out there who have a favorite teacher, don't listen to all the bad stuff people say about them, not everyone likes everyone else. Stick up for your teacher... espedcially if they deserve it.

I think you hear more about bad teachers because there's more of them, don't want to be pessimistic but that's what it seems like(at least in Spain)... well anyway here goes about the good teachers: my earth science teacher, because she treats her students like equals and is simply a great teacher, interested in what she does and really seems to care about her students... my second grade teacher, every day in class the first ten minutes we'd spend doing relaxation exercises(breathing exercises, yoga, etc), he'd also give individual attention to everyone and was just a really fun person to be with... my 10th grade history teacher, he was strict but was able to "captivate" everyone in class explaining history, I think few people failed his classes. that's all I can think of for now, if you'd made a thread about the bad teachers I think I could write a couple pages...

My second grade teacher, because she gave everybody individual attention and work at their level. My tenth grade science teacher. He lent me biology texts and a microscope. And he basically acted as a resource and expected us to learn independently; he'd write what we needed to do on the blackboard and then sit at the front of the class to be available for questions or to help us if we got stuck. I think the number of lectures he gave that year could be counted on my fingers. (my classmates hated him for that, but oh well) My seventh grade science teacher. He was an incredibly nice guy and was superb at answering questions in a variety of ways. My eighth grade teachers-all of them. Because they noticed something weird was up with me and asked me how my home life was. My tenth grade history/socials teacher. She respected us. She encouraged us to question everything, including her. She wouldn't make us beg to use the bathroom. She didn't freak out over people wearing hats or coats in class. She cared about getting us to think, learn and respect each other. We had brilliant class discussions. She taught us the essence of debate and how to write good essays. She wanted original thought--no test in that class was ever about filling in blanks or memorizing facts and other people's ideas. Ironically, she's one of the people who inspired me to ditch the public system and become an unschooler.
