You're right, parents don't have the right to make your decisions for you but neither do they have the responsibility to be paying for your *** to back talk them. they don't have to buy you knew clothes, value village anyone and they don't have to fix the furnace to your room and they don't have to make you breakfast lunch or dinner and yet i'm sure they do. It's respect, no you don't have to listen to them but give them some respect and credit and give their ideas a fair shake. Try them and then judge and don't be put off by bossy ppl

Some religious people are convinced their way in the only right way to go. Some will go as far as openly stating that you won't reach salvation or anything of that sort if you don't follow their beliefs.

Are you asking, "Should they have the right..." because apparantly they do not?

The thought of our parents controling our lives is bad, but you also need to think about the tie when you couldn`t chose. And all the bad things you could have done if your parents could not choose. So I think that if you are old enough and can make your own choises talk to your parents and see what they say.

My parents never do that. They are very individualitstic themselves, and our house is a haven for creativity and scientific and moralistic inquiry. It is a very wise system.

It amazes me about how our parents tell us to be our own individuals no matter what anyone says, and to speak our mind because it counts. Then, they yell at us because we're saying what we think and it's "disrespectful"..<sigh> i just don't get these parents of ours.

Well, your parents control the cash. Hense they can hold financial need above your head and without money you are in a very deep hole. They have a partial right to help you make decisions but they shouldn't make the actual dicision.

Try and talk to your parents if they won't listen. Don't yell and try not to argue, just tell them that you'd like to talk about making your own decisions and try to get the point across as calmly as possible.

Parents can try and influence your beliefs but since they can't control your mind they don't have the right to control your decisions on religion and crap like that.
Character traits are YOU no one else can form those...only your enviroment and you do.
You have the right to be your own person and form your own beliefs, your parents can't control that. Mine have tried and given up fortunately... Just remember your life is your own not your parents. I find it stupid to what your mom is doing to your sister, she should just accept your sister for who she is.
