I was spanked a lot as a child, and I think a lot of it was humiliation,(to yogore's point) and pain. The worst part I think was that if we cried or screamed, because we were three boys, we got even more spankings.

My younger brother actually threw a tantrum once while my dad was spanking him. I don't know how he got away from my dad, but he did. (He was only six, I was nine) My mom couldn't keep ahold of him because he was fighting so hard, and my dad should have been able to get him (two on one?!) but he threw a chair at my dad and then kicked him in the grapes while dad was down... My mom gave up, and he ran away. Didn't come back until well after the sun had set. I remember that part because my mom wanted to call the police for help finding him, but dad was afraid of the child abuse he would probably get pinned on him. That was the last time my parents spanked my brother and I, though they continued to be agressive. They did continue to spank my youngest brother, though, until he was eight. But again, they were still agressive.

i think spanking is ridiculous. my parents used to spank me. i screamed really loud one time and my mom lost control. i ran up the stairs and she dragged me back down by my ankle. she drew her hand back to hit me...nut, my dad walked in and started yelling at her. they haven't "spanked" me since. but, they do threaten me with it, though. i don't think they realize i know they won't. gosh, they're stupid...i really don't like them very much.

I don't think that's appropriote. Spankings are not meant to be painful, because that is sadistic. When used, they should always be with clothing on, because humiliation isn't supposed to be part of it.

Of course it should! Kids in schoool, but specially teenagers are really awful. They swear, talk bak and show zero respect for any adult in the area. We are a family of 5 kids, but none of us ever did anything like that... well besides a few little offenses, but never that bad to make our parents fell shame of us. I got spanked kinda hard when I was 7 for cutting my sister's doll hair b/c she was kicking me knee under the table. That doll was really expensive and brand new. When she showed that poor toy to my mom, I felt a piece of crap and fully deserved my punishment. I think I received something like 20 swats on my bare butt. Couldn't sit properly afterwards... but got the message and felt sorry for my sister.
I learned my lesson and I turned out to be a good 14 yrs old guy. IMHO yes, I definitely think it should be allowed. Child abuse is way different and has nothing to deal with discipline.
