I am 14 years old.
He is 17.
He turns 18 in a couple of months.
He dumped me because he doesn't want to end up getting arrested.

Is it against the law for a minor to date an 18 year old WITH parental consent?

actually there is a 3 year issue here. Because you are 3 yours younger than him then he can get arrested on rape if you do anything (by your parents) if you are only 3 years younger than him you can actually say that it is consensual and he wont get in trouble for it. but also know that because you are 14 it makes things even more sticky. because that is like the borderline for harsher punishment.

you could marry him if your parents said okay.

i wouldn't worry about it honestly, i mean nless you leak it out that your dating someone and have a sexual relationship with him then i would be concerned, but if you don't let people know it should be fine, i mean i'm 15 and i'm dating a 23 year old and he hasn't gotten in trouble, and i don't think he will anytime soon. hope that helps Wink

To clear things up:

Minors (under 18) are not allowed to enter into a contract because they are not legally allowed to give consent.

In the same way, individuals under 18 are usually not permitted to give consent for sex, which makes it rape. The age for this varies by state, but can likely be found online should you care to look it up. Note: THIS INCLUDES ANY FORM OF SEXUAL CONTACT, NOT JUST INTERCOURSE.

There are no laws (that I am aware of anyway) against an adult dating a minor. This means you could have a 70 year old man dating a 9 year old girl and the law wouldn't really get to say anything about it...that is as long as there's no sexual relations of any kind.

Hope this helped.

Have fun. Smile

Why does it matter if the age is only like2 years apart? Ok i can see if you are like 15 and dating a 30 year old. But dang. 16 18 relationships thats not bad. I think cops and parents need to back off. cuz really, what are they ganna do?

In a lot of states, if it is a 16 year old dating an 18 year old, the law turns a blind eye or has it written that that relationship is consensual and, if sex is involved, is therefore not statutory rape.

hi guys, i was just reading the conversation you have here and i am very interested. i am currently researching for a teenage debate tv show and i am looking for people with opinions on debates like teen relationships, revenge and how you should treat your friends and partners. i will pay travel for anyone that wants to come down to london for filming. the show will be a pilot show, so will not be aired, but its a great chance to meet some producers and get your voices heard . If this is something you are interested in. please call me on <Removed by Moderators> Thank you

NOTE TO ALL YNers: I Highly advise that you DO NOT call this person. First off, (s)he says nothing of who this is through, what company, and gives little information about what this is actually about. For your own safety, unless you know this person, do not call him/her.

Mod Edit: just lockin down that phone number, carry on

Mod Edit: I don't know why you'd call an Idaho number for something in London but is sounds damn fishy to me. YNers if your contacted by this person let the staff know ASAP. Online Safety is one of our top prioroties and this person seems like a very real threat.

No, not at all. I know loads of people who are dating people older then them-similar to your situation. He could get in trouble if you guys are having sex, but other then that nothing can be done, especially with parential consent.

It is not illegal for you to date him at all.

The only gray area is with sex. Because you are a minor, you are legally unable to give consent for sex, so it would be considered statutory rape.
