Totally. Elders deserve our respect because they have survived the sort of tough times we can only dream about. Each and every morning (because weekends hadn't been invented yet), they got up and walked seven miles through the snow to get to school,
without shoes, because, you see, there was a Depression going on, and shoes were a luxury. After school, they walked another five miles to their job, where they worked until midnight for a meager eighty cents a month. Luckily back then, thirty cents was enough to buy a lifetime supply of licorice, but you
didn't waste your money on licorice, because back then there was something called financial responsibility. If you
did spend money on licorice, see, your dentist bills would skyrocket (and dentistry was painful back then, they didn't have novocaine like you lucky little raggamuffins have today), and since insurance hadn't been invented yet, dentistry costs were sky-high, sometimes upward of $2. That all changed when Roosevelt became President, though, which is why our family voted for him for seven consecutive elections. Where was I? Oh, right, no, you
can't have $20 to blow on something as stupid as a movie, because that's how much my first car cost. Don't give me a bunch of bull doodoo about inflation, either. Inflation would have never happened had the Baby Boomers known how to walk past a shop window without reaching for their checkbooks. Back in my day, see, people
thought ahead, and we had something called morals, yesiree bob. We didn't have any Jennifer Simpsons or Nicole Hiltons parading around wearing little more than oven mitts. Back in our day, gentlemen wore hats, which was why crime was down 800%. In fact, I'm not even sure crime had been invented yet. And...hey, I'm talking to you!
Okay, I'm done. In all seriousness, I pretty much agree with the rest of you. Respect has to be earned, and no age group should automatically gain our respect. But our elders really
have been through a lot, and so long as they don't go into rants like the one in the paragraph above, we should give them a shot and a chance to impart their wisdom.
And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"
