I've grown up in church all of my life, but now that I'm growning up I want to experience the world from a different aspect. What should I do?

I say, don't be afraid to look at the world from a different view. "Heresy is a cradle; orthodoxy, a coffin."
It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.... Men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less. ~Susan B. Anthony

when i graduated from highschool i told my parents that i was going to leave home and figure out my own beliefs. i explained to them that i valued their opinions and views, but that was all that i had ever known, and i didn't want to be ingnorant, i wanted to know what else was out there.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Growning up as a pk (pastors kid) pg (pastors granddaughter)and pn (pastors neice) I still have times where I want to leave it all behind. Since I went off to college, it has opened my eyes to different things. I don't necessarily think that it's a bad idea, but I recommend that (if u are religious) that you make sure that nothing will sway your faith. Right now I have so many things I want to do, but all I can really do is just pray, and in the end make the discussion that is best for me. But like I said ( if your religous), make sure what you do will glorify God. If your not religious then don't compromise your pride and yourself. Make dicissions for you. Good Luck.

Trust me, I've doubted my faith SO many times. What I did is I realized that my beliefs didn't follow the Catholic Church to the T. But then I asked myself if there were any other faiths that were closer and there were none. So now, I continue attending my Catholic church, because at least it gives me a chance to think about what I DO believe and it is comforting to have an hour set aside for my spiritual well-being every week.

I'm probably gonna catch some heat for my response, but here goes: As just one human being, I cannot say where you take your next step, what actions should be executed, nor force any thoughts to become yours. I can, however, give straight-foward advice that I can leave here for you to consider - some of it might be downright hard that it might strike a nerve because it comes so close to home: that is for you to choose whether to accept or not. I cannot say whether you're saved or not because that information is not given so I will fork my response for either case. If you are indeed a Christian, I know how pleasurable the world might seem. I encourage you to explore...within the boundaries set up, of course. 1 Corinthians 6:12 starts with a powerful line: " ' Everything is permissible for me,' but not everything is helpful..." God has given us this world to enjoy, but with boundaries that we have been asked, not forced, to obey. This is to say that you may freely choose what it is, yet as a Christian do your best to keep to what you know is right through what God has said in His word. Above all else, keep God first in all of this - God may have sent Jesus to die and make it all about us that day, but that was in order for us to make a choice whether or not we would freely choose to surrender all, not some, all to Him, including our will. In this way, His desires would become our desires piece by piece so that in the end we knew what it felt to be fulfilled, to no longer feel that gaping void in our souls that was made for God alone to fill. In the even you're not a Christian and have grown up in the church your entire life, believe me I've been down that path before myself. It was like, "Yeah, yeah, so what else is new?" and in the end I tampered with things that in hindsight I know I shouldn't have because it hurt me more than it helped, a lot of which I still have to pay the price for today. Again, this is a matter of choice - you have been given free will so that you could stand up and act on your own. I ask that you read what I have already stated regarding 1 Corinthians 6:12 and take it to heart - the apostle Paul wrote this knowing that there are things out there we shouldn't mess with even if everyone else is doing it. The boundary is ever present and it's up to us whether or not to cross it...but at what cost? Will it be just a misguided first step or could it land us a freefall down a cliff to the jagged rocks jutting out of the sea waiting to skewer you? Most of all, take to heart that, if they have never said this at all in your church, that Jesus longs for you to a make a choice to trust in Him as He had this to say in Gesthemane: I am in them and You are in Me. May they be made completely one, so that the world may know You sent Me and that You have loved them just as You have loved Me. (John 17:23) May God bless you and provide you with wisdom so that you may choose the correct path to take.

quote: Who are you anyways to say something so bold as that? What are you the president?
Anyone and everyone can say anything they want about your "God", church, Jesus, or anything else pertaining to Christianity. It's called the First Amendment. Example: I am God. Because I say so. I love America.

Me too. Hmm.. you don't have to abandon your church values. Get out more and spread the word of God to others and in everything you do, do what God is expected of you.

Experience life the way you want to but still hold on what you believe.
I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize. My friends, I don't feel that I have already arrived. But I forget what is behind, and I struggle for wha

Out of interest, which denominations (sp?) do you people come from? Having grown up in an Anglican enviroment, and haivng lived for the past three years of boarding school about 400 meters away from the centre of the Anglican faith, I know relativly little about other Christian churches. Except for Roman Catholics, I know plenty about them too.

In addition: I am a very curious person. My description of being a christian of one type, changed to a Christian of a different type doesnt really help you much but I love the supernatural, the inappropriate, the sometimes obcene things that my religion preaches against. I would never tell you to ignore everything that God has told you and run away and join a cult, or forget everything that isnt in the Bible and do whats "right" like continue with church and not give in to temptations. Do what you want to do. Give in to your desires to what you think and know you agree with. That is the only way to be happy. And if that is joining a cult or following Jesus or being happy with yourself, go for it...
