so paranoid uniforms are every where very few don't have them from cops to a guy behind a desk pretty much every jobs had a dress code to go with it now some jobs like lobbyist don't have a dress code as they actually don't do anything thus making them not jobs. Now while a dress code is not a uniform and you have some choice in what you wear you still have to dress to a certain level of appearnce wether that is nice pants and a nice polo shirt or a suit

Get used to life. A lot of jobs require them.
Yes, but there are also a lot of jobs that don't require uniforms. And, in any case, you won't be taken off to jail for not attending that uniformed job - not like kids and school. The problem with your analogy is that the adults have choices, while the kids do not.

Uniformed children always give me a creepy "1984" sensation. I'm really not sure that schools should be adding regulations that promote conformity and "group-think" - they seem to be doing too much of that already. It's always seemed bizarre to me, that we expect to create good democratic citizens by sticking them in an authoritarian environment for the first 18 years of their lives. When are they to learn about challenging authority, the bedrock of responsible government? And people wonder why voting rates hover around 60%?!
Anyway - the other problem I have with uniforms is the skirts. Why in hell are young girls saddled with such restrictive garments, in this day and age? I see it as a sneaky re-enforcement of "traditional" gender roles - "Be all you can, little Suzy, but don't run with the boys or climb or bend over too quickly, or you'll show the whole world your ass! Just sit quietly and do as you're told."
I wonder if the right-wingers on this board would be as supportive of unisex uniforms? I predict an outcry of "Commie propaganda!".

I don't think that the school administration should make students wear uniforms. Teachers and principals have enough control over students, sometimes I think that it is too much, but they don't need to be telling up what to wear. Having a dress code is fine, as long as it isn't too strict.

what? sexygrl indivduality isn't measured by the clothes you were it's measured by the personality you have within you. Those who need clothing to feel diffrent are just blending in by standing out like the whole goth thing was started as a way to "rebel" well now tons of people dress like that so it's not a big deal the clothing doesn't make the person, it's the person that wears the clothes that matters

I used to attend a private school where we had to wear uniforms. There were some options for alterations, but they were limited. Private schools should continue to enforce uniform dress for students. It eliminates the problem of inapropriate dress, and is the one thing that all students visually have in common. Public school students wearing uniforms is a waste of the school's funds. Plus it's creepy to imagine.

I don't think that schools should make you wear uniforms because if you wear uniforms you really don't get to be an individual. When you can wear whatever you want it gives you a chance to be unique.
Being weird isn't so bad it means your differnt your unique your an individual and to me that's important.

Ok, Uniforms are pretty cool. I live in Puerto Rico all my life and we dont have that wear what you want for school thing, both public and private school must wear uniforms. Just in case, individuality is not afected but encouraged why? becuase a LOT of people make diffrent adjustment to their uniforms so they look diffrente. Like for example: You can wear a tie or put pins you can even express your believes with it. The only bad thing is that if a student steals, start a fight, caught them doing drugs or something, they can identify from which school he is from and then the school punish everyone in it by taking drastic security measures. I know it s in part a good thing but why should everybody else pay becuase of what a jerk did! and besides you can have this days called Civil Day or Color day where you can wear anything you want according to the dress codes. And when those days come is like everybody chance to shine.!

When I was in high school we didn't have uniforms, but there was a dress code. It was a fairly lenient dress code though, no belly buttons showing, no offensive language on clothing etc. I think it was pretty good.

a suit is a customizable uniform in all reality and if you work behind a desk anywere on earth you'll be wearing a suit I belive a properly worn uniform 1. let's people identify as a group which gives a sense of community and 2. looks good I wear a uniform once a week according to regulations set by the United States Airforce and I feel like a million bucks and a free car
