I think if you witness child abuse you should tell someone so something can be done who knows you may be next on the persons mind. I am scared for some young children who are small and cry easy that to me is a good sympton that something bad is wrong and needs corrected.

Earthy

Sadly many of us have had situations like yours...I think raising any child in unfit living conditions like you described is a form of child abuse. As you know it has effected you mentally. However what can be done about it is not much, one the cops can come out and take your Dad away for a night, in most cases abusive Dads come back even more angry. Your Mom would have to press charges for any real damage to be done, and like most abused Moms....she most likely won't out of fear. I could never understand why people stay with abusive mates....it messes up everyone's life. Mad

I thought it was just like...if you witnessed rape or abuse and you didn't report it, then you would be arrested or questioned or whatever...I don't know what it is. I just thought that if you didn't report it, then you would be an accesory... isn't that what's it's called? Razz Just be thankful I don't want to go into Criminal Law or something, I guess.

fetch-no one is going to send a child to jail for having witnessed her father abusing her mother. that's just crazy.

and earthgoddess, i think it probably could be considered child abuse, but honestly, what other people call it shouldn't determine how you feel about it. this is clearly something that has deeply affected you, and no matter whether it is technically child abuse or not, you should seek help if you think you need it.

According to the law, if you witness a rape or murder or something and don't tell, you're considered part of the crime and you COULD go to jail for it. I don't know how much is included in that, but yeah.

Yea, Earth, probably no child knows what to do when they are confronted with that.

I sure didn't know what to do. I never really knew what to do.

Your dad should be in jail.

I am sorry what you had to see. I understand now why you think that Marijuana is the cause of many problems. It is hard to accept a bad person for what they are instead of giving them an excuse for their behavior.

my dad pushed my mom onto the stairs and tried to choke her to death. he did this about three times. i saw it everytime. one time he held a knife to her throat and screamed something at her. it really hurt when i had to sit next to her and comfort her when he left.

i've been afraid of my dad ever since. i dont even talk to him or anyone else anymore.
