The children are at increased risk for crime victims of sexual abuse. The impact of sexual abuse can be devastating and often leads to an intergenerational cycle of violence abuse.

Question:
Should children be taught how to protect themselves from being sexually abused by relatives, friends, neighbors and others? And what would be the best media?

Choices:
Parents
Teachers
Peers

One of the reasons that there is an increased amount of sexual abuse is how prevalent sex is in our society. Its prevalence in everything from TV to books to adds lead to people having sex at younger ages. I’m not saying that we need to go on a witch hunt and ban all references to sex, however I do think that it needs to be treated more seriously and that kids should be more sheltered from sex unless it is sex education.

Also child abuse needs to be met with stiffer punishment then it currently is. Many states have adopted stiffer punishment but a few have not taken that path. States that have not adopted stiffer punishment should be pressured into doing so.

Lastly things like drunkenness and drugs increase the chance of adults sexually abusing a child. These things should also be treated more seriously and people should to taught the full range of negative effects that these things can cause.

The rate of sexual abuse is increasing because of the internet... all of these friggin stupid ass myspaces and facebooks, and internet chats and online games... ya know all the things people waste their life on. It's truly pathetic that parents let their children go on these things and take part in them. My girlfriend, when she was little, started talking to this guy online, and he actually came to her house one day and her parents had no idea she was tlaking to this guy. Fortunately nothing happened, but still, this is a perfect example of why those stupid online things are a waste of time and dangerous.
get out and make real friends if that's your thing. People are such fucking losers.

If the risk for abuse is increasing, that means the number of offenders is increasing? Shouldn't we be trying to reduce and identify these persons, instead of teaching children to be wary of adults? We should do our best to protect children instead of teaching children how to fear. Or, perhaps because parents are busier now, and don't have the time to keep up with what is happening in their children's lives, children should be taught how to look after themselves? In that case, I'd think their peers are better suited to teach them how to look after themselves!

I personally think that not only parents, teachers and peers are given the responsibilities to teach the children, but the government and societies too must play their part to fight against this child sexual abuse. Government must have a proper law to stop these insane child abuser from practicing what they are used to practice and the society too must give a helping hand to the government.

even though some children have been taught about sexual abuse they still cant really protect themselves much..the best is that children should be frank and tell the problems to the significant others

i personally think the society should let go social conditioning that the subject is a taboo subject and be a bit more open about it...

let kids know how and who to approach for help an guidance and that its NOT OK to keep silent about such issues...
