For English I had to write a protest song, and the subject I'm protesting against is..well it's two things. Child abuse, and those who see it pretending it's not happening.
Yeah I know it sucks.

Gas Mask.
She was only thirteen when, when she broke
She used to run down the street
Head to the bus stop
Bags packed, heading for nowhere
Arms bruised, heart scarred
Anywhere but here
Anywhere but home
She was a nice girl.
She would've been a nice girl
Her house used to shake from anger
Suffering radiating from the roof
You would hear them down the street
Thunder in the chapel
Neighbours, shut your eyes and ears
That's what you do, isn't it?
They said,
“We didn't hear a word,”
They said,
“We didn't hear a word”
She fell apart
She fell apart
All by herself
What did she do? What did she do?”
She was bleeding on your kitchen floor
The pain in her eyes, ear-splitting screams, can you hear it?
You all saw her
"Why is she falling apart" you asked
You knew
You were watching from the window
Your shameless eyes glaring from underneath
That gas mask
When the stretchers came
You closed your eyes again
Said
"I never knew
How could this be?"
Neighbours, shut your eyes and ears
That's what you do, isn't it?
They said,
“We didn't hear a word,”
They said,
“We didn't hear a word”
She fell apart
She fell apart
All by herself
What did she do? What did she do?”
I don't like liars
I don't like liars
(repeat until fade)
