Stop with the stereotypes.

I said that he was a "guy" (which he is believe it or not) because most girls wouldnt say they would abort a baby because it was going to have mental handicaps. Maybe I'm wrong, but ya know, since I am a girl myself, I have the right to say that.

I think I would choose to have the baby, unless he/she would die from her condition. However, I think parents do have the right to abort based on mental retardation.

hopefully, if I was having a kid with somebody in the first place, we'd have already made up our minds to take care of them no matter what---meaning if there was something that made them forever dependent on us we'd take up the responisibility.

Just because the severely mentally challenged don't progress past early developmental stages and may not communicate doesn't mean that they don't have awareness or that they're incapable of feeling joy and fulfillment. A severely mentally challenged person might not be able to become a rocket scientist, but that doesn't mean that they can't live and take pleasure in simple things or that they'd want to die once alive. I can't even try to decide that for somebody...even if they are only a potential somebody....

I definitly wouldn't abort a child just because it was mentally challenged (is that the right word?). Every baby is a blessing, and how smart they are shouldn't matter. The parents of kids that are mentally challenged that I know don't think of their child as a burden, but as a blessing, and they love them just the same.

Yes, I'd abort it. No one deserves that life. If my child was autistic though, or had Asperger's, I'd let him/her live.
