I think the author of the article came off a bit brash, but for the most part i think she is right, and i also think its the parents fault for it, underline parents, not just mothers. Yes pop culture is filling our heads with the idea of the perfect women, or man, but i think that the morals that are instilled and practised in a house hold should be able to help fend of the fashion designers of the world.

I read your post and have been thinking about it all afternoon, and I think you are right(forget my other post).
It is a problem that girls feel it necessary to dress a certain way to impress/attract people of the opposite(or same) sex. But I think the problem should be addressed(sp) in a diferent way. There is a lot of talk about how immoral it is to dress showing you belly or whatever, but not many people look beyond that. I think instead of just banning certain ways of dressing we should ask ourselves why is it that girls feel pressured into dressing like that(is it fashion industries, magazines, tv, or whatever). That's the real problem.

Simply saying it's immoral and banning it will not solve anything. First we need to look at the causes and then we can solve the problem(wich I think is more psychological than anything).

I think that article Joey posted is ridiculous, that mom makes me sick, she's the typical overprotective conservative mother.
I can understand if she's talking about 10 year olds, but when you get to a certain age it should be your choice how to dress. I mean common' what's the big deal with your thong showing a little? Or people seeing your bra strap? Or showing your belly a little? Not that I do these things but honestly who cares? I just don't see it as a problem. There are much bigger problems in the world to be worrying about a little skin showing.

hmmm.. I wonder why YOU prefer girls who are decent and yet you are one of those who support prostitution. Which exactly is your stand? Or maybe you are just saying you like girls who dress decent so that you can hide your true self... Sheesh.

Dressing sexy doesn't mean girls want to have "sex" I think You shouldn't blame it on ordinary girls who walk the streets. Blame it on the clothing designers who designs clothes like that.

This debate has been going on for at least 50 years, the only thing you can do is not engage in such dressing yourself, but complain all you want, I don't care.

Now, don't get me wrong, I like a little eye candy at school, but I prefer girls who look...decent. That's my take on the whole deal. However, what bothers me the most about this is that the girls dress to reveal almost everything, but they get squeamish at the idea of holding hands or anything like that. Why go through the trouble of attracting guys when you don't wanna..."do" anything with them? Is it just me or are girls weird like that?

Agreed. Walk down a school hallway and it's like going on H/ooker Avenue. It's really degrading women, and shows that we as a society put more emphasis on appearances than what's inside.

However, the article basically says that all scantily clad girls have large sexual tendencies even at their age. That's not always the case. Many girls just dress like that but are complete virgins, who, quite frankly, wouldn't know how to.....eh....please a man. They just dress like prostitutes because according to the media, being a near prostitute is a good thing.

Considering the fact that I live in the Caribbean, we dress like this a lot of times, but there's no sexual purpose in it, it's just, damn, 93 degrees in March...And the girls here that dress such way are usually my age (16 or around that age), so it's not like their too young either.

It's all an issue of self-esteem, self-respect, and the limits parents have on their kids. Girls who almost fully display their butt crack and nipples and vaginas simply don't feel good enough of themselves to do any better, and thus channel this self-esteem problem to dressing like a ****, because when you dress like a ****, you're acting like a celebrity and boys are guaranteed to like you (even if it's for one groping).

I have no burden against nudity, it's a beautiful thing. But if you do it for others (examples: to be more popular, to make someone be attracted to you, etc), then you need to gie yourself some respect. A lot of it.

Another thing I think of when I notice this is the idea of feminism. We want respect from men, but how the heck can we honestly say "I deserve to be respected" if we dress like we're about to work the street?

And of course, Nazi-like parents are never good. But if my daughter tried to walk out the door wearing very very tight and ultra-low-low-riders with a thong peeking out, and a strapless shirt with no bra that says "Nasty", I will sure to hell get the rifle.

Sorry for the long post, I have just thought on this for a long time, so I had a lot to say.
