I feel disgusted. I was looking for counseling positions for this summer. The safesearch was on and everything. I go to the next page in the search engine. And bam.... I get websites for lesbian teen blowjobs websites and etc. It is way too easy for people to access this stuff, especially children. My own little brother's classmates a couple years ago (in fifth grade) accessed this stuff on the School Computer! The teacher didn't even discover it until like a week later!!!! I believe there is a bill on the floor right now in Congress actually concerning this. I plan to find out more about that. But what do you guys think?

I've never had problems with porn and search engines, though I used to get porn all the time at my old email address. Since I changed it, though, I haven't gotten any, so I think porn is now more of a case of find-it-yourself. Some porn I would worry about (i.e. little boys strapped to a table), but porn in general I have no problem with, as long as it's not made ridiculously easy to access for kids and it's not in my inbox.

As for the original topic, it sounds like better filters were needed for both your search, and the school computer. I certainly have no clue why such things were coming up if it was in safe search because it automatically filters stuff that would contain words like blowjobs (from my understanding of most search engines). I agree that it is pretty easy to access porn, but parents have the ability to limit (or altogether, stop) your own reaching those kinds of sites through many service providers, like AOL. Also, there was already a similar bill relating to child protection passed in 1998, but has little enforcement from my understanding. If you continue to have problems, visit: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Child_Safety/and check into KidSplorer and Snitch. As for actual porn, I have never experienced problems like yours - was not looking for porn, had safesearch on, entered a valid search query and still got blatant pornographic sites. If I did end up getting something, which I can't remember, chances are that I would understand why something would come up due to particular words used in the search query. I think internet porn is fine; I've never had any pop-ups, never had trouble with searches (either at home or at school) and access it only when I want to. I can't say that I would support anything anti-porn, honestly speaking. I would support things making it harder for children to access, but the root of the problem would be much more difficult, time consuming, and expensive to stop (altogether) than creating a network of barriers for children.l

i think internet porn is a fact of life right now. if you dont want to look, then don't. but really, would you rather have some horny guy (or girl) wacking off in front of a computer or finding someone to rape because he has nothing to look at?

You'd be surprised. Btw, kpaul, your signature always reminds me of that Nietzsche quote..."And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

quote: They might be thinking of the word 'snake' as a euphemism for the male sex organ.
Lol, that's what I assumed at first. But how stupid to judge the content of the site just by what its name could possibly hint towards. It's obviously not a porno site. But whatever. I'm practically obsessed with its content whether I can view it at school or not.

I have no problem with porn. More people whackin' it to that means less people hittin' the sheets and less probability of more people on this planet.

Porn will never be illegal. That's naive to even hope for. However, more and more sites are implementing programs such as VeriSign, to make sure the people visiting are legal adults and legal adults only. Besides, sites without that usually have a splash page telling the viewer to leave if they're not over 18. Of course, there's no way to enforce it, but it lets you know it's porn. ...of course, I know none of this from experience...
